Ok, I am worn out from chasing down odd and end screws and stuff. Some of the car was never put together, some of it was taken off by me, some of it was taken off by the paint places. None the less, I have a good amount of things I need new hardware for. Its kind of hard because for some of it I dont any old screws or bolts to compare to, so the size is unknown. Is there a good place to reference this information? For instance I need the 2 screws that hold the headlight door/ring on (one per side) 56 ford tudor, I think they are a fillister type head. I need the screws that hold on the parking light extenstion pieces, the hardware the holds down the parking lights, etc... I am missing all of these pieces and driving myself crazy trying to figure them out one at a time. I have seen a few kits on ebay, but they dont look labeled for what they are for, and if they arent that wont help a ton.
A lot of those parts are referenced in the Ford Parts Manual on CD-ROM that Retro Jim has for $12.Ace Hardware actually has a fair amount of automotive special nuts, bolts and clips and etc.My wife has accused me of Ace being my second home.
Jeff is probably right. You are best to go to a store selling auto fixings. Ford in their wisdom uses all sorts of various size self tapping screws, machine screws and bolts. Probably the best way to match them up is to take the part with you that needs fixing. At least then you will be sure of them fitting. Macsautoparts and teebird products have pretty comprehensive listings with pictures which may help. I am a little bit behind you in my resto, I hope I can find all my bits and pieces. Regards
http://www.amkproducts.com/ i was watching the two guys garage or whatever its called now and seen this place advertised by them.
I think I personally helped my local Ace Hardware owner buy a new car with all the fastener purchases I made while buying parts for my 54. Seriously though....go to Ace. Take the part if you need to be sure of a good fit. Waiting for little fasteners to come in the mail and paying shipping for them is a pain and unnecessary. Another side benefit is that you can upgrade to stainless if you want. I did...especially on fasteners that'll be exposed to the weather.
I will check out ace. On the amk products, looks great but i didnt see any kits for our cars..mostly 66 and up looked like. I was able to find out.the bolt size for parking lights and extensions, it had 1/4-20 stamped on the back of them. I have a parts manual on cd but not from jim but ***ume same one. I find part numbers but not bolt and screw sizes. Maybe need to look again
