hello, any help on this question would be really nice. I have a 1954 ford customline, took out the old factory rearend, put in a 1978 ford Granada. here is the problem. the factory 54 ford rims fit, but not all the way. the end of the axle hits the rim. any ideas. I want to keep the factory style wheels, with my hubcaps. thanks all.
hit up jason at bear metal kustoms/early wheel. he can make you a set of rims. even use your centers and change the backspacing. (805)772-7767
You will have to get later 15 inch rims with the bigger hole. Try Ranger rims. Not sure about back spacing. Quite sure width is bigger.
While I am sure that it has been done, I would not recommend enlarging the hole in the wheel if you loose all the reinforcing material there. Better to machine down the axle hub if there is enough meat.
if you were in north tx I would say bring them here and I would turn down the end most machine shops can do it should not take but an hr time running the car in gear on jack stands and using a grinder would work also just be carfull
i had the same issue with the maverick rear end, i just opened the holes in the rim up a bit and they fit very well.
Do it the easy way and just order up a set of rims from Wheels Vintiques 559-251-6957. When I replaced my running gear in both my 54's and 55 Granada rearend and spindles this is what I did 15X7 with 3 1/2 back space In the future if you add disc brakes you will have to change to disc brake wheels anyway. Just my .02 cents .
