This may seem like a dumb question but I'm curious to know where you guys located the fuse panel for your aftermarket wiring harnesses? My initial thought was up high on the driver side kick panel but that doesn't seem to leave any place for the wires to hide before the interior is installed over the kick panel. Logic tells me to install it just under the windshield wipers in the center of the dash but I want to see what you guys have come up with. Thanks.
I located mine about 2/3 of the way up the driver side kick panel. The only reason I put it there is ease of access.
I mounted mine driver side of centre under dash. I made an angle bracket from 2mm aluminium attached to to fire wall at the same height as the bottom of the dash. Then made a panel to span between bottom of dash and firewall. I mounted fusebox and all the relays, flashers etc to the top side with the fusebox nose poking thru just enough to change the fuses. Wires then exit above, left right and down with enough slack that the whole panel can be unscrewed and lowered to the floor if more work is needed. I dont really like to lay upside down on my back! Panel cannot be seen but fuses can be changed without the need for any tools. My two cents.
I used my kick panel, tucked up high. With my actual kick panel in place you can't see it, and its pretty easy to get to. Drilled some holes, and used nutserts
Thanks everyone. Sounds like the drivers side kick panel up high is the place to put it. The upholstered kick panels were out of the car when I started on it so I have no idea how high up they actually go. it just looked to me that there wasn't enough room over there with the fresh air vent and where the top of the kick panel would be for it to fit in that area. The car is an hour away from me or I'd just crawl in the car and figure it out myself. It's the little things like this that drive me crazy until I can get back out to the car. Thanks again for the responses
I saw a nice set up on a freinds 34 ford pickup. Fuse box was located on the p***engers side of the cab, under the dash. He made a hinged plate so the hole panel would swing into the vertical position and you could easily get into anything without standing on your head. Can't remember how he fastened it up into the horizontal position but it wouldn't be hard. Looked like a good idea to me.
Many newer cars have them under the hood with a protective cover over them, upside with that is they are easier to get to instead of getting on your knees or laying upside down on your back.
38chief, I saw one a guy had in an old Plymouth like that once. He had it on a hinged plate and it fastened with a magnet when it swung up out of the way and if I remember right, he had his to the right of the glove box. I've also seen guys put them in the glove box. Dos Cincos, you could always put it in the trunk, behind the back seat too. Food for thought.
I put mine dead center on the firewall, up behind the dash, made all the wires nice and organized and right there, best part is its easily accessible if need be
