just a thought. I know the wheel base is 1" different. I am not building stock, so that does not matter... anybody know if the other frame components will work.?? thanks

I'm note sure if this would apply to a Merc but, I put a 54 ford wagon on a 55 ford frame with some minor modifications. The difference in the wheel base appears to be from the firewall forward. i had to slightly modify the inner front splash panels to clear the upper control arms and fabricate a bracket in front of the rad to mount the fenders. Looking at the car now, I can't see where the wheel base difference looks out of place. The front wheels are still relatively centered in the fender openings.
All the other body mount points line up.

I would get the frame specification diagrams for both cars and compare the body mounting points.
A few years ago I found the diagram for my '55 online and printed it, Sorry I can't remember where.
