They had a little event in the 40's - WWII. Lasted from 1941 to 1945, and the Model T's volunteered for service.

See, I've always been told that shoeboxes were 49-53 Fords and Tri year Chevy's because ANY SLAB sided car was thought of as boxy, like a shoe box. So I'm gonna stick to what I've been told and you all can just stare at me like I'm the World's dumbest gal............I'm good with it!:D

Oh here's my question, why do idiots wear their belt buckles to the side? I know they say "So I don't scratch the fenders on my hotrod", but come on, how many hotrods REALLY have fenders????? If it's really bothersome and you THINK you might scratch your primer :)rolleyes: ), then just buy a freakin mechanics belt that covers the buckle! I have like 5 of them!

Anyone? Joe Dirt said it and I've never heard of the expression in all my years of automotive jackassery...

  9. Ask Bob Bleed what a brody is, he does them all the time. Better known as a doughnut, I think brody was somewhat regional. Spinner knobs on the steering wheel were also refered to as brody knobs.-MIKE;)

It's not about scratching the paint, it's because it's uncomfortable under the beer belly.

Maybe he's being a smart ass? OR maybe he's saying that because in the Traditional scene, everyone's got a Hemi, a Nailhead, a Rocket or Flathead. Soooooo he's gonna be different.

    Just a thought.

In my neck o the suburbs a "Brody" was as follows:

Throw the car in reverse .. haul ass backwards... crank your steering wheel.. and flip the front end around 180 degrees as you slap it in 2nd or 3rd (depending on the degree of ass you are hauling).... its a sweet little maneuver when on a narrow suburbian street packed with parked cars for obstacles...

My stupid newbie question.. WHAT IS BTTT?

BTTT means back to the top. used for bring a post back from page 10 or whatever.

My question... If putting platinum spark plugs in an old car, do you gap them to the spec for normal plugs (.032-.036) or leave them as they come (pre-gapped at .045)? My thinking is that the smaller electrode is gonna make a more concentrated spark, so leaving the larger gap makes sense. This is on a '62 Thunderbird with a 390.

Funny you should say that. I saw a show the other night called 'Full Throttle'. They fixed up a Pacer, and a Gremlin, then took them out to drag against each other. They were running 18 second quarters...of course the nitrous helped out just a little! ;)

  20. I have a good couple...

    1. Where do you guys find all this vintage tin to work on? Some of you guys have several original cars that you dug out of fields, barns, etc.
Seems around here there is next to nothing and even 60's cars are either overpriced or complete rust bucklets.
    2. Would a 66' Pontaic fullsize, that is slammed with a crossram, be considered HAMBish enough?

If your HotRod is influenced by Traditional Rods and 60's Drag Racing - but has things like a BigBlock Chevy and discs on the Straight axle...is it not traditional enough to be let into shows like:

    -Hunnert
    -Road Agents
    -Jalopy Jambo
    etc. etc. ????

Not that a really give a crap, what they think about my truck but I would be embarressed to show up and be turned away - but if I hide all that stuff under a hood and fake brakes from so-cal does that make it any better???

    I have a few questions.

Why do HAMBers hate small block chevy's so much when most of the old timers I've spoken to agree that within a few years of them being produced it was THE motor to run in a hot rod back in the day?

Am I the only one who has noticed that even though we like to point fingers at the tri-five resto guys, vette guys, etc, as the primadonnas of the hobby, we are just as bitchy and snotty as they are?

Why do some of you hate ricers so much when the truth is that they have more in common with true old school hot rodders than we do? Think about it, they are all about taking the lightest, cheapest cars they can get, and making them as fast as they can with what limited resources they have (which is exactly what hot rodders did in the 40's, 50's and 60's), while we are mostly a bunch of hoarders of overpriced parts, and we put more emphasis on "period correctness" than speed. They didn't care about any sort of "correctness" back in the day, it was about making fast cars. Don't get me wrong, I have as much respect for the history of hot-rodding as anyone else. I just don't get the the hate that most guys around here have for the "ricers" just because they are different. It just seems really ignorant to me. The funny thing is, every "ricer" I ever met had nothing but positive and respectful things to say about my cars. Do some of you just NEED someone to hate?

Why is it that we can have posts about tattoos, skateboarding, the Reverend Horton Heat, rockabilly lifestyle, and every other non car-related topic out there and no one says shit, yet if someone mentions a musclecar, or a Porsche, or some other FAST CAR, half the board gets their panties in a bunch over it and start crying about how they don't want to see that on the HAMB? Isn't hot rodding (or at least wasn't hot rodding) about fast cars? (by the way, I have no beef with those other topics ).

Why do people focus so much energy on Boyd Coddington? He builds cars that aren't necessarily of the same style as what we're into, but some of you guys act like he's the fucking anti-christ or something. Like he's ruining the car hobby for everyone. I don't know about you guys, but Boyd Coddington has never come over to my house and harmed me or my cars in any way. In fact, I think it's safe to say that he and his show have no effect on my life whatsoever.

I guess these all come down to one question - why are there so many haters?

I don't think that anyone has any real hatred for the small block Chevy, and you'd have to be blind not to realize that they were a highly desirable engine in their day.

The problem comes in when 75% of the old cars on the road have a small block in them, and they are usually 70's vintage 350's with dress up stuff to try to make them look like the early 265's and 283's that made the small block famous.

So you could compare small block Chev's to some of the 60's and 70's musclecars at car shows. We'd all drive one if we had one and they're great performers, just nice to see something different once in a while.

Rebels will always hate what the most people have. Same reason for the so-called ricer cars. You can respect the work that goes into them, but they get a little boring to look at when they all look the same and have the same mods done to them.

Then again, what the hell do I know.

Alot of those ricers are not doing it on the cheap that put enoough money in a civic that they could have just bought a fast car in the first place.

The only problem I have with them is the innocent people getting killed by those idiots racing. Other than that I couldnt give two shits about em. I got better things to do than hate people for no reason.

Actualy a lot of rice cars are doing it on the cheap. It's the show cars that are not. Goto the foreign drags and take a look. Some are high $$$ and some have cars running 13s on $2000 including car. I do agree that a lot of the more expensive cars start to look the same after a while. Rods have this problem as well.

I am still hoping some of the guys on this board start answering some of these questions. I for one am curious about how some of these current clubs started and how they are affording club houses. I am also curious how many of you are the same age as the original rodders and how many of you are over 30? Don't get me wrong, I know there were many rodders back in the day over 30 but the majority seems to have been under 30.
