Been doing 50's ford trucks since I was 15 when I got my first one. I just got a 54 mercury on Saturday and the cars are a whole new world for me but I got it for a good price and I am hoping to do some work and turn it for a small profit to fund some of my other projects. There is already a thread started http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/private.php?do=showpm&pmid=9225608 and yes it is a face only a mother could love.

I do have a few ideas for it and for the experts out there I am pretty sure the engine is a truck engine I found some of the factory engine paint I used on my 56 f-100 but the casting on the intake is EUB9425D the water neck is ECE8594-A I am pretty sure that is the casting on the water neck inlet.

Welcome from So Cal. I saw your thread on the main board. That's going to take some doing to get it looking like I would want it, too smooth.
    Good luck with it.

The worst part is there aren't even door poppers on it you got to push on the black thing on the door and pull it open. Im not sure if I am going to fully shave the doors and put poppers in it or not.

Welcome to the Group! Here is a solution for your gas tank issue which has been used not only cars with shaved and decked trunks but also for cars with a rotted trunk floors: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-MUSTAN...969|Model:Mustang&hash=item27d3d17d07&vxp=mtr just cut the trunk floor and bolt down the Mustang tank and run the lines.Ford used 6 volt gauges up through the late 70's so the sending unit in this kit will work with your stock Merc gauge.

Any have pictures posted of what this tank looks like once installed? and will I have to cut the spare tire holder? I would hope I dont have to cut that out to make this fit.

Also since the someone has started the conversion to 12v I and I am wanting to use the stock gauges where all do I have to put voltage regulators? I am ***uming that I will put voltage regulators on each gauge for the dash and one for the fuel tank sending unit since it will be a 6 volt.

I looked under technical on how to build a voltage regulator and I am making them pretty simple and cheaper than 20 bucks a piece. The thread is here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=448038 I have already ordered the stuff to make these and I will have about 23 bucks in 10 of them plus it will make it easier when I convert other stuff from 6 to 12 since I will have some spares.

The Ford unit I showed runs ALL of the gauges, you do not need one for each gauge it is a simple 12 volts in and 6volts out.Just one simple circuit and more accurate than the runtz style.

Jeff have you put in a mustang tank? I've done three. If you want the tank in the center, the spare tire holder needs to go. There just isn't enough space.

I have not done it, only posts on the HAMB by those that have done the swap.Since you have can you post pics of your install? Can the tank be offset to clear the well? One installation showed a 2" riser framework between the floor and tank, would this be an option for clearance? Please move your info and picture links on this to the "sticky file" for future reference.

I am not sure if I want to cut the trunk just to fit a tank in it because the trunk is so nice and solid. I might try to see if I can mount it underneath the car and put straps on it. Does anyone have the measurements on the tank?

I'll snap some pictures tomorrow for sure. I used angle iron as a support frame, a little crude but its structurally sound. I remember not wanting to offset them because I would run into the raised part of the trunk pan for the rear of the frame. I suppose if you wanted to figure it out, you could save the spare tire well, at the very worst by just relocating it a few inches over. I would suggest against buidling a "subframe" for the tank, as that eliminates a flat trunk, which is useful if you actually use the trunk.

Im going to try to use the trunk as much as possible. I will have the measurements for the factory tank in the next few days. As for cutting a hole in the trunk area I already figured I would have to do that but I do not want to cut out a whole lot if I dont have to.
