I have a 54 ford and need to remove the hood and after looking at it for a while i believe the spring will pop off.
Do I have to remove the long spring before removing the hood?
Is there something that I am missing here?

    thanks in advance.

If you are just removing the hood, it should just be the four shoulder bolts holding it on.

When I removed my hood I actually used stereo speaker wire "wrapped real good" to hold the hinge ***emblys in place. This also helped out greatly when I wanted to put the hood back on.

Four bolts and lift it off.

Yep - just the four bolts. I had my hood off a couple of times and thats all it took. No problem with the springs.

I randomly have 2 hoods and neither of them are on my car right now. I should probably put one back on

Pay attention to the washers that are on the 4 bolts. They are special parts and must be used in order for the hinge to work properly. These washers are often lost when removing the hood.

Hmm, tell me more about these special washers. My car doesn't have them. I'm sure the previous owner (Gramps) lost them years ago.
