I'd like to change the location of the dipstick hole from the middle of my 272 block to the front, as pictured. What would I use to plug the old hole? And, is it a matter of drilling or knocking out the plug at its new location? Thanks. Bruce
A very easy chore at this stage. Use a punch to remove the plug from the front hole, keep it to buy a new one to fit in the rear hole. A dab of sealer on the dip stick tube, tap it in, then be sure to add oil and check the level to see where four and five quarts hit the stick before you run it.
I guess you know You need a front sump oil pan for the front mounted dip stick. New plugs are available from the parts stores.
Yep. Had I used the circled location the stick would have hit the shallow part of the pan and given a false oil level reading.
Since you have a '55 it should have a front sump oil pan,if you try to use a donor from a truck it won't clear and you find out the hard way.
