Need help with a carb choice. My 59 project has a later 70s stock 351w with a 2 barrel. I was going to keep it on but since I need a choke and have to fix the linkage I say upgrade to a four. What the best choice to add a little hourse power and will be easy to hook up. Nice street carb that will not drain the gas gauge and I can get cheap.

Jeff, I bought a Summit carb for my 302. I returned the first one because it whistled right off idle and had a vacuum leak around the ****erfly rod. They took it back no problem and even sent a replacement before I returned the damaged one. I put the new one on and had the same whistle off idle, right where you have the throttle to maintain a steady speed. They said to file the edges of the ****erfly because of the way they are stamped, they can make noise. I filed the edges and it didn't make any difference. I returned it and got a Holley and it doesn't whistle at all but I've got to say, the Summit ran better than the Holley. I just didn't like the constant whistle.

Get a Ford 2 bbl off a 429, vintage '69 - '71. 375 cfm. Higher flow than your present carb. Easy to rebuild, operate and they were made in the USA. They are either 1.21 or 1.23 on the LF of bowl area.

Street dreams is right, Ford has some 2brls with good cfm, Had a 62 with Y block 2brl.real dog, changed the 2brl, had more torqe & power, even had a 4brl sound, On the side of the carb looks like a clock, find the decoder for this & will tell you cfm, they go up to almost 500, the 375 is agood choice, This is a lot cheaper & quicker than changeing intake & carb

If you want easy and don't really want to upgrade to a 4-brl intake, you can just get a Holley 4412, it's a 500 CFM carb thats exactly like a factory 2-brl linkage and all. I have a 90's 5.0 HO Mustang motor with a Ford factory aluminum 2-brl intake and a 4412.....it runs great and gets over 20 mpg with a T5 and 3:55 gears.

If you must go to a 4 bbl with a stock engine , don't get anything bigger than a 45o cfm carb as you will never , ever use up 350 cfm's on a really good day .

Most problems with people getting carbs is they alll get a carb that is way too big for what they have . Even a decent cammed engine won't use up a 500 to 570 cfm carb .
I build FORD engines from stock to full race and for 99% of any engine that you have that is a street engine no matter what cam you have in it , a 600 is more than you will ever need .
Stock engines are better with a 500 cfm Edelbrock 4 bbl carb .
