Who has them? Are they hooked up? How did you do it? I put some on the 54 this weekend and i love the look. Im just wondering how people have hooked them up without cutting a hole in the frame?? Im not sure that I want them hooked up right now though. Not sure if I or my wife want burn marks on the back of our legs haha!! Any tips or advice is welcome!! Jason
You don't need to cut a hole in the frame, just takes some creative bending is all. I just run dump tubes, and there wasn't any issue installing them. Had a muffler shop hook up the lakes on the '54 mercury for my brother, but similar situation, no issues.
I mounted them to the back of the rocker for now. If i decide to keep them on the car I may change the mounting. So far they seem pretty solid.
Damned good looking car!! As an aside, I like your cars stance, what set-up are you running? I've thought of lakes but I'd be s****ing them all the time.
Thanks for the kind words! Right now my suspension is fatman front drop spindles. I believe they are 2 inch. Then the stock 40000 mile coils that i cut 1 and 3/4 coils off. In the rear are stock leaf springs with around 40000 miles with 3 inch blocks. The pipes havent s****ed yet, but they are close. The only issue i have had since dropping it more is the exhaust hits a little bit on the rear end on big bumps. So maybe some bending is in order. But its not that bad. Other than that the car rides and rolls out very nicely!! I was a little worried about it riding choppy or ****py since i have cut so much off of the coils. I wouldnt cut any more off of these. If I changed anything I would go with some new aerostar coils and the lower a-arm spacers to get the same drop for a better ride. I also plan to add some air shocks in the rear to lift the back end when i have a cooler or something else in the trunk. I will probably order some new shorter front shocks too next year. Right now they are fine, but im sure its only a matter of time until they start to leak since the stance is so much lower.
I can snap some for ya later today. I can also get some pictures of the lakes pipes hooked up, but that might take more time as that car has moved on down the line. Kind of crude how its done, but I wasn't looking for performance, just noise. Baggs, you know I love your car. Thing is killer
CC, that would be cool!! When you say the car has moved down the line, are you talking about yours? Thanks again for the kind words, having peers recognize your style and the work youve done is worth alot!! Im just trying to create something you wouldve seen someone build in the 60's.
hmmm, Maybe Custom Crestline???? haha!! Jeff, there should be about 5 photos to choose from out of what I uploaded earlier this week. Thanks for the recognition!
These have made a comeback:http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEGS-Perfor...her_Vehicle_Parts&hash=item4854afe0e0&vxp=mtr Just open the caps on the lakes pipes and pull the cable and ROAR!
Nah, my brother's mercury. He had it for about a year than lost interest and sold it to a buddy. I'm either gonna be buried in my piece of junk or if I have kids give it to one of them if they want it. Love it too much to ever get rid of it. The best way to explain how the exhaust shop did it is that they cut a hole in my downpipe, and bent up a little piece of tubing and ****ed it up to the downpipe and ran it to my dump tube. I'll PM you with the picture as soon as I get them off my phone ahha
I remember those cutouts from my high school days, hope they're better now than then as they were leakers and made for a ratty sound.
