I have a 54 with an aod. I used a gennie shifter for mine. Works great! Trouble is making sure you could get one! I know their business has been up and down. Much talk about it on the main board.

I have a 56 with a 351-FMX and used a Lokar. It doesn't look too out of place, and has been working fine. Bad part is there's no place for a backup light sw. Put a toggle under the dash.

Paul, how often is someone going to remember to flip a toggle switch under the dash? Why not just get a brake light switch of a ford truck the push ****on style mount it under your shift boot and weld a tab on your shifter to strike against it. Simple enough and keeps you legal.

Depends on what you want to spend and what you want as far as looks, the neutral safety and reverse light switch is mounted close to the shift lever on a C-4 it consists of 4 wires with a square plug you will see pictures of it and the wiring diagram here:https://www.google.com/search?newwi...A&biw=1135&bih=631&sei=trsqUoKSIKWRygG_0YHQDw I used a B&M QuickSilver in mine that I scored at a swap meet for $50 like new, upside to the install is it bolts to the hump with 4 bolts and the only hole needed is for cable access and it has reverse lookout feature.

The last car that I used a C4 in I used a 60's Mustang floor shifter, you would have to cut a hole in the floor to use it. The problem with using one of these shifters is you need a C4 shifter arm for the side of the trans from a floor shifted car, they are getting hard to find.

Yeah, think I am going to either need to go with something like a B&M or a Lokar.

there are tons of real good, and very well engineered, shifters available for chump change that can be easily installed in our cars. Cable shifters are easiest to adapt. Any c4 shifter arm can be made to work though they have to be pulled and mounted upside down.

Zapato, Brake light switches don't work too well as backup light switches, you need a roller sw. or a similar short throw switch, that gets activated only in the reverse position (not neutral or park). I could have done something like that, but I wanted to get things put back together and didn't take the time. I only use the backup lights after dark, so it wasn't a big deal to me. Paul Selfe.
