I am currently in the process of converting my 1955 Customline from a Fordomatic to FMX gearbox. This requires a change of tail shaft which I have sourced from an Ozzie Falcon. The rear uni is an RUJ 2039. I don't want to change the diff so am wondering if there is a conversion bearing from this uni joint configuration to the flange type used originally on the diff. I would imagine that the rear uni RUJ 2039 is similar to what was used in Mustangs with FMX gearboxes. It has internal circlips. I know there used to be a uni available locally, but nowadays if you are not mainstream it is nearly impossible to find a salesperson who can help. Just getting the standard uni joint for a 1955 Ford can be difficult locally. Can anyone help with a bearing number?
When I did my 302 swap I just went to my local driveline shop. I took the old driveshaft in and when they made the new driveshaft they put on the correct one. It is indeed an oddball unit as they had to special order it and it was not cheap. I have no idea about a number though. I was a partsman years ago and they just measure the OD's and widths and just look them up in their catalogs by dimension not application. Here is all the dimension you need to measure. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/c130_universal_joints.html
Thanks for that I have found a PDF file from car quest which has some oddball bearing configurations, I have to find the time to measure it all up to see if anything is available.
I used Denny's, they only want measurements, vehicle type doesn't mean anything, talked to the guy on the phone, within a week I had my u joint to mate my toploader to my stock 55 rearend
Denny's seem to have good site for reference though it appears the joint they carry is for the external curclip typ uni. My tail shaft uses the internal c clips. It is good to see that I may gave a fighting chance. I suppose it all gets down to the dimensions when I can get a chance to measure them, but thank you both for the response.
