Well as my previous post. The truck cab was taken to be shot blasted. Picked it up this morning and took it straight to the body shop. I am pleased, there is not much the matter with it as you can see.
It looks great. Can you pull the aprons off and blast the area under them before you start cleaning it up and priming?
I have heard of soda blasting cabs. What medium did they use for the blasting? Is it expensive to have done?
Be cautious using soda blasting. Paint and primer don't like soda, and if you have even the SLIGHTEST soda residue you WILL have paint problems in the future. Too late to recommend it now, sorry Al, but I've been using "wet blasting" recently and am THRILLED with the results. It uses a sand/silicate blast media mixed with water. It cleans away anything that isn't steel but stays cool. When we did the roadster body for my wife the surface measured 110 F in the sun. Immediately after blasting the surface temp was 80 F. Of course, wet blasting is "wet" so you need to use a product to stop the rust from ac***ulating. Check out www.holdtight.com. You spray it on after blasting the piece and it will hold OUTDOORS for months!!!
