Getting old seems to make it harder and harder to see when working at night so I built this cool light setup last month. It is basically a 2"x8"x5' board with a 4' 54 watt T8 light fixture attached. I added a double receptacle and light switch for convenience. I used a 50' cord to wire it up with and added a handle for picking it up. Underneath I added 4 rollers from Harbor freight so it skids around under the vehicle. My last garage had plenty of overhead lights but there always seems to be shadows where I am working but this thing works great. I put it under things, lean it against the wall or set it up on my work bench. It has come in very handy so I thought I would share. I like it so much I am also thinking of building a couple more.

love it! for simplicity in wiring would it be better to mount the switch after the outlets? Think I have just about everything to built one other than some plexigl*** for bulb cover, thank you for sharing.

Zapata I did it that way because I felt the switch was too close to the light cover like you suggest. No harm in it that way it was just a preference to have it farther away.

I used it all last week working on my daughters Mustang. I layed it on top of this HF cabinet and rolled it right up to the car. It was very nice. Even helped when I was working in the trunk on one of my other cars after that.

How about a couple of eye bolts on either side to hang it up if need be.
    Great idea.

You could. I just stand it up. I want to build a stand that will hold two lights vertically on wheels so I can just wheel it around. I thought about adding two posts to my toolbox so the light would always be there. I could build 2 more right now and love it. lol

How about a couple of those wall clip thingies that hold brooms against the wall so you can snap it onto a piece of pipe mounted to a stand? That way you can pull it off and use it somewhere else. Just thinking...
