i lowered my 53 customline with aerostar coils and 2.5" dropped spindles in the front. can anybody tell me what shocks i should buy? does anybody drive the same setup? thanks
Check with Jamco for their recommendations for the specific shock for your application. Whatever it is, they've got 'em. Good luck! http://jamcosuspension.com/products/sfID1/73/sfID2/39/sfID3/70 My '52 Vicky uses the same stuff you've used plus the Jamco tubular control arms. I don't have my shocks yet but will go to this same source to get 'em when I do.
Here you go:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gab-82026/overview/ JAMCO?? You might want to look at this first, you will be there a while:https://www.google.com/#q=Jamco Suspension complaints
Well...I don't know what to say. I had a few delays when ordering stuff from Jamco but they always came through for me. The complaints Jeff refers to are intermingled with praise from other customers - it's not all bad, just some of it. And...the complaints are all at least a year old. Nothing seems to be recent. I'd use my own judgement when dealing with Jamco. It's possible that they had a run of bad which has since been corrected. Call 'em and talk to 'em. See what they say. Every business has hard times once in a while. To crucify them forever would be to make a big mistake in my humble opinion. Just sayin'. Do what you think is right. Another consideration is that heavily lowered cars with reduced suspension travel usually work best with shocks that are shorter than stock. This is to allow the shock to work in the center portion of its travel range, not all the way to one end of it. And, cars with reduced suspension travel need a much, much stiffer shock to adequately control what suspension travel there is. This means a gas-filled heavy-duty shock is best, not an EOM-type replacement. But once again, do what you think is right.
The 82026 Gabriel is gas filled, the other option is the KYB KG4503.If you remember our member who made our T-shirts from France Remi' ask him about the $200 plus that Jamco owes him from over a year ago and refuses to make good after furnishing paperwork backing up his claim, since gurrru is not in the U.S. it would be chancy at best.Ryan removed them from the Alliance because of the ongoing complaints he was getting.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=773153&highlight=jamco
I have aero star springs and got my shocks at auto zone. I think they were the shocks Jeff b listed . Been running about 3 years now no problems
For anyone interested in buying from Jamco, but worried about getting the product, I live 45 miles from them and would be willing to drive over and pick up the parts and forward to you if you will verify first that they are available. I would ask $25 to cover gas for the 90 mile round trip plus the cost of shipping.
After my bad experiences with Jamco I will never buy anything again from them. I searched eBay for this part number Fgs5256 and found the exact same shocks cheaper.
I'm running KYB KG4503 with my Aerostar coils... picked em up on Amazon and the fit and ride quality is perfect. They currently have them for $33 and change, pretty good price especially with a prime account.
I am running the KYB's as well and they ride great, I believe they have a high gas charge that helps with our heavy cars.
thanks for the reply. everybody here wrote that you drive the aerostar coil setup. but i habe the aerostars and the dropped spindles. the total drop is 4.5" witch shock fit for my car, the gabriel 82026 or the KYB KG4503? or are both too long? i think my favorites are the kyb`s. what do you think? thanks
Because I have a custom setup, I took my measurements and used this tech data in selecting mine for both the front and rear: http://www.kyb.com/technical/do***ents/ShockDimensionsSecured.pdf
What does a drop spindle have to do with shock length? It moves the spindle up without changing any geometry or shock issues. Maybe I am missing something.
