Id like to see what you guys are using for skirts on 52-54 fords... Ive seen some recent pics that look like a combination of the 52-54 overlay skirts and the bottom half of a 51 merc skirt.

I think I've tried at least a half-dozen different styles but haven't been happy with any of 'em because they do not continue the bottom line, but instead have a bit of a jog where the tire is. Like you, deadendcruizer, I like the bottom line of the early Merc skirts and have been looking for a bottom flare like that to fit my '54 Merc.

After much searching I think I've found a style that I will like. I stumbled across them on the "e-whatsis" auction site. I don't have 'em yet, but when I do I'll put 'em on the Merc and see how they look. They are very similar to the ones on the Ronnie Dragoo Merc which I have always liked. Let's hope they make my Merc look as "bad" as Ronnie's. We'll see.

Will it work...? I think it will!

The skirts that Missydad 1 has pictured are identical to the ones I have on my 53 Ford. Even the color is right! I've seen different styles, but I like these best.

The skirts that are pictured are the same ones I have on my 53 Ford. Even the color is the same. I've seen other styles, but these look best because they cover more of the wheel.

From what I understand those are the original overlay skirts... The new re pop ones cut up at the front of the wheel well then slope down (not a fan)... I did see those skirts on eBay, however I also was led to a man that bought the original dies for them and makes his own at $150 a set, waiting to see pics of what he does...

The ones that always attracted me were those used on the Jerry Quesnel and Pete Angress Fords, but I've never seen a commercially available skirt the exact duplicate. Both of these are subtly different and I think they may have been made from the big '51 Mercury skirts, judging by the flare shape and length. Anybody got info on this?

Establishing a reliable source of this style skirt would be great! I have looked long and hard to find them. Let's hope this new guy pans out.

While I'm thinking about it, here's a neat idea to cure overlay skirt "gaposis". Check out the tabs added to these skirts...

    Pretty neat, eh?

I have the same skirts on my 54 Ford. They are made by foxcraft. I also have the other style overlay skirts that cut up in the front and go straight back. They don't cover the tire as much.

Yes, deadendcruizer, I did get the ones on ebay. I made 'em an offer and they took it. They look great on the Merc but will need a lot of fitting - both quarters need repair before I can fit the skirts, though. It's always something...

Hey Eric, good to see you're back online. How is the merc coming along? And miss daisy? BTW, I really like them '54 Mercurys, it would've been my choice had I not already had my '56 Fairlane.

Also BTW, I like 'em without skirts.

Thank you, Ron. It's good to be back. The Mercury is still pretty much the same other than these skirts I'm trying on for fit and effect. I've always liked 'em on the Dragoo Merc and wanted to try 'em on mine. I've got two or three other styles, including the stock ones which are my favorites so far, but these had eluded me until now.

I plan to paint 'em red, fit them to the quarters - after fixing the quarters - and stand back and see how they look. If I like 'em I'll keep 'em, if not they're gone. I like the low level stance with or without skirts so it's okay either way. We'll see...

Yes, I prefer the Mercs, too. I was looking for this car when I found my Victoria - which explains why the Vicky is for sale. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes. At least I won't have to pay alimony...
