Hey guys a little rant towards myself. Is it just me that feels bad for old rusty **** that I try to buy it so it wont get s****ped? This is the main reason why im not working on the coe or buying parts for it. Besides not having the space alot of times they are to big to move them.. Im sick and ive thought about seeking help so I can jo longer care what happens to it all. So far I dragged a short bus home. A couple of old utility trailers, one a Homemade horse trailer that is using model a rocky mountain brakes and a small military type trailer. A 1 1/2 gmc A 51 dodge truck, no grille no driver fender. An old 40s meat delivery box for a truck A 50 ad chevy truck no front clip and bad p*** rear fender .help! And the worst thing is losing sleep thinking about how and when to haul them home and where to put em.since we dont live in a flat piece of land. 60+ acres and most of it is desert mountain? ?? No neighbors tho...
I only have one acre and I've got the same disability! Had over 30 trucks and cars but whittled down to 20. Thank goodness for big bushes. 7 inside, 4 drivers and 9 hiding. Sure glad I don't have your acreage, I'd be 10x more occupied.
This **** is contagious! Right now I've only got, 1 COE, 1 1/2 ton, 1 3/4 ton, 1 one ton P30, 1 Dallara F3, 1 SUV, 1 car, 1 tractor, and 1 Kaw Mule, and I'm about to go drive some back roads to see if I can find more.
I've had this problem for years. Luckily I have 2.5 acres of dirt. Right now in residence: 30 Model A coupe, 46 Plymouth Business Coupe, 56 T-Bird, 66 Mercury S-55, 70 Firebird Formula 400, 7-2nd gen Trans/Ams, 54 Chevy COE, 2 Power Wagons, 81 Mercedes, 96 Dodge Dakota, 03 Subaru, 66 Cessna 150, and a tractor. Saturday I'm going to look at a 99 Dodge 3500 and 2 car trailers.
Nope, closest would be a 56 MGA, that in May, I will have owned for 40 years. I have 4 of those GT-6s and an early hemi, maybe someday I can put a drag car together. (just for looks, I can't afford to go racing)
I live in a suburb that CNN money magazine rated #1 small cities under 15k residence and I have my COE project being built in my back yard along with a non-running 87 BMW e24 L6, the mostly dismantled f600 cab, a friends Suzuki samurai and piles of parts, empty propane tanks and a 15ft tall A frame hoist. My neighbors HATE me.
I think this is a common affliction with those of use that have rust in our veins. My wife started in on me the other day about my treasures in the back yard. I told her that I could always build a 4000ft shop for $150k, so she let up. I used to have a real douchbag as a neighbor, she mentioned one day that they might sell. Had a buddy of mine call her and made an offer with no realtor, now we look at each others many field projects and have no issues.
If I had room, I'd be in trouble...I'd bring home so much stuff. My issue is noise. I tend to hammer, grind so much that it makes people mad. Can't say that I blame them. They want to live where it's nice and quiet, I do too. I want my next shop to have a well lit, sound-proofed room just for making noise and dirt. Maybe also double as a paint booth. Hose it down, turn on some exhaust fans and spray. Do I dare to dream?
SkyValley, welcome aboard! My wife and I have had an agreement for a long time that my junk must be out of sight when she drives in the driveway. After putting up with this for over 30 years, I just couldn't keep it all behind the garage, so I stored some next door at her moms inside an old unused semi trailer. Dumb ***ed bro-in-law decided that "mom" should give him the trailer so he could s**** it. I was in a bind! I had been agitating for a shed for a number of years, so this was my chance and I got it "p***ed through congress". She likes what comes rolling out of the garage once in a great while, in fact she bought me the 56 MGA for a wedding present.
Seth, that "problem" you have is what a lot of us have . 19 ac of the same thing . Admitting you have the "problem" is the first step . 2nd step is to sit down with a big JD , sip and look for more .
When I first got my 6 acres I drug home everything I could. Had 17 outside and 5 or 6 inside. Then my heart attacked me and with that came a change of plans, now I have 3 hot rods I drive and 4 projects as well as a scooter or 2. Don't want to be overwhelmed by having too much work ahead of me LOL. I'll be in the shop working on my next c.o.e., I will be driving this one in the spring.
Hey guys I guess I found my support group. Just got word that I own a 37 gmc cab and I knw where a frame bed and fenders are and can be had for cheap. did some work for a 60 f100 custom cab long bed stepside. Also working on a trade for a 53-56 f100 bed and fenders and asked if a 56 f250 is fr sale. I wonder if a junkyard permit is expensive, migh not sell anyparts but id be allowed to keep it all in one place.
I don't think you want to go with a salvage yard permit. I think the EPA will crawl right up your A$$ and build a nest!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Seth, Here's why this whole scenario must exist. If it were not for some of us having this "save the old rusty stuff" affliction, we would never find the rare part, like a COE hood, that some friend on the other side of the country might need. We just need to be sure we keep our inventory known to others so that the Rust Gods can keep the universe in alignment by redistributing all the rusty metal. Take care!
Wolfcreek-Steve, I have always loved the GT-6's even if I no longer really fit well in them. What are your plans for them?
Hey guys.. Well its been more than a year and this decease wont seem to slow down.. I've thought about electroshock therapy by the wife would have too much fun with the cattle prod or the 6 year old, gotta watch him too,he's a little prankster. I thought it was all a dream but i woke up to own more **** instead of selling everything but the coe. Turns out at my tender age of 30,I'm a hoarder,a pig that finds joy in rolling in it's own filth. I added 2 mail jeeps and 1 89 wrangler to the mix, built a shack to store the coe while I work on it hiding from the heat. I try to hide the stuff i have behind it but it's like an elephant trying to hide behind a bamboo stick.. I didnt mention in the beginning of this rant, that have of the stuff I own,is still in the previous owners places,my uncle's,my grandpa's and the pastor's.. 2 of these projects are in a non secure place so tweekers and punks can get to em and cause damage,i already foung badges broken cuz people try to take em off... It keeps me up at night and just cant find the will to move them to my place,1 being too big to move... I already talked to a guy that s****s and he offer to take the bus "for free",it serves me well as a shed but a broken windshield keeps it's potential down. It sickens me to think of its faith but i do need the space and I just know I'll die before I try to do something cool with it. End of rant.. For now.
30? You got a long ways to go, my friend! I haven't been acquiring much lately, except for another Triumph, this time a Spitfire in nice drivable condition. (my wife's 60th birthday present, and yes, it really is hers!)
I too have slowed down almost to a halt bringing stuff home, car related or not. For awhile I have been hauling machinery to the shop to make some money with it, but even that has gotten a little crazy so some of that is going to get purged. I too have a couple trucks at a buddies house and I have been working towards getting them out of his hair but of course it means moving things and getting other projects done before they can come into the shop. I am in awe of the more disciplined guys that can do the one at a time only thing, it would make life simpler I think.
Greetings Iwana and all you other Coe guys!....I know this is an older thread but have been too busy as of late to cruise the hamb much.....I too have the drag rust home disease, my current count is 14 I think, two are done two are late model ot trucks the rest are projects!....Seth the ones you don't WANT but want to save advertise, here , ford barn , Craig's list etc...maybe make a few bucks for YOUR PROJECTS and perhaps infect another human with this WONDERFUL AFLICTION !
Woah! What a timely response. I now realize the extent of my hoarding,I have plans of moving from the desert and I want to travel light so having a fleet of broken down trucks following me around,is not an ideal way to move.
