I've only had my 54 for a few weeks now and it needs a pile of work, thanks to the lying $#@$%^ who sold it to me. Any way , the driver hood hinge looks a little bent and does not work right. And the hood won't stay up. Has any one here tried to repair these hinges. I know they were problematic but finding good used ones is not easy. They must have worked originally so maybe they can be fixed? D
my left hinge was bent - I straitened it as best as I could and installed new springs hood stays up now
Yes, they can be repaired but you'll need an undamaged one to copy in order to get the shape right. I've repaired a couple of 'em very successfully using a torch to heat and reshape the arms. Also, be sure you've got the special bolts that hold the hinge to the hood. These are often missing and other bolts subs***uted, causing the hinges to bind and bend. The bolts are available reproduction as well as used original. They are often advertised on eBay. Once you've got the arms reshaped and the proper bolts in place your hinges will work like brand new. There's no need to reinforce them, just keep 'em lubricated and don't use 'em like a gorilla.

There is a guy in Burbank, California that can repair your hood hinges,It is not cheap but it is well worth it. His name is Roland and his phone #818 845 3574
Here is a Ford owner that used Rowland Hall for his hood hinges: http://mainlineford.wordpress.com/ a lot of guys on 1954ford.com swear by him, never at him Rowland beefs them up a bunch so they will not fail like the stock hinges.
