Hi to all....a question....I have a stock 55 Ford sedan that I have contemplated having the profile lowered a bit...I like the way this car drives and am wondering if lowering the car would change the handling of the car....i drive at regular posted speeds .....If lowering it some does not change the drivability than my next questions is how much to lower it and how to go about it ?............thanks in advance for any help........John in CT

Lowering will help the center of gravity, which helps handling. A 1 inch or 1 1/8 front sway bar helps a whole lot, as do radial tires.

A quick and easy way to lower the front end would be to swap the stock springs to the Aerostar springs (part number in the FAQ Sticky file). You should get about a 1.5 -2 inch drop with that quick change.

On my last 55 i used Moog Aerostar springs and lowering blocks on the rear with new Monroe shocks and the lowered ride was good to look at and the ride and handling were transformed and its way easily the best bang for buck way to go ..On my newest 55 project i have gone another way using coilovers instead of the big spring and shock on the standard system but keeping them in the same place with some small alterations to the frame and upper spring perch( check my libarary pics ) this allows me to use longer or shorter springs and the multi adjustable damping is great its not a m***ive job but its not as easy as the Aerostar swap

Here is my before and after with the MOOG springs Jeff linked. I got about 2" drop. The car rides nice and there were no negative effects in my case. My leafs were already sagging from age so I never had to do anything there.

Here's my 55, Granada disc's dropped it 2+ inches, Jamco leafs brought the rear down 2 inches. Radials on it, rides good but next month I'll be picking up a 1 inch sway bar from nascar Dave, suppose to really smooth it out.[IMG]

What size tires are you guyz using front and rear? I have 710/15's on it now but going to radials. I'm also running aerostar springs and Monroe shocks

I'm running 205/75's front and rear. I have Granada spindles and the aerostar coils up front and 3" blocks out back.

I use 205-65-15 front and 225-7015 rear on stock width and backspace wheels. The right rear is a bear to get off, so I carry extra tools just in case.
