I'm driving to Camp Lejeune for a 5 month school. For me this is a bit of a road trip too. Please send your suggestions of awesome custom and hot rod related places to check out. I will either take the Northern route on Interstate 40 from California or the Southern route on Interstate 8. I'm not really picky about which route, they will both get me to Ft. Worth, TX where the family is located. I also plan on driving through Oklahoma City. The trip east of that, I don't have planned at all right now. Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated.
Old route 66 to OKC, then drop down I-35W to Fort Worth. Many historic sites still exist on the old Mother road.
Thanks for the information. I do plan on driving route 66 for a little while through Oklahoma. I thought about seeing the Daryl Starbird Museum.
There is still a good part of Route 66 sites in Arizona that will put you on Interstate 40 too.Give this a read: http://www.arizonaguide.com/itineraries/the-mother-road-route-66 You know we want to see some pictures at these sites. Here are some to inspire you https://www.google.com/search?q=ari...ab8AHE34GwAg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=933
There used to be anold junk yard just west of kingman az on rt 66. Saw an old 34ish ford bus that I thought would make a cool ride, but that's been yrs ago . Maybe someone knows if its still in existence.
Tomorrow the road trip begins. Thanks for the responses about places to see. I am taking the southern route through Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas until I reach the Fort Worth area.
Before you go check this out:http://www.speedtrap.org/state/45/Texas if you are p***ing through these towns,Texas is just as famous for this as Willie Nelson and Lone Star Beer.
Thanks for the information Jeff, I didn't get a chance to see your post until today. I didn't have a problem with anything from California to Oklahoma. Tomorrow morning I'm heading to the Darryl Starbird museum north of Tulsa, and then to Memphis. I should end the day in Nashville.
Careful on that Oklahoma Turnpike, typically there is a lot of road construction. I drive from St. Louis to Tulsa several times a year. Speed limit is 75, I've seen cops pull people over for going 76.
Good luck on your trip devil dog. your 54 is lookin good. I bought my ranchero down in oceanside right outside pendleton.
I made it to Camp Lejeune this afternoon. Today was the worst part of the drive since I drove straight from Nashville to the base. The rest of the trip was a blast. Now I just need to find a good barber that won't butcher my hair.
