1952-59 Ford Amp meter jumping around

    So my battery was dead the other day and I charged it got the car started and I noticed my amp meter needle was jumping around I would rev engine and the needle would start to move from middle to over half then jump around. I did the jumper wire on the regulator and reved engine and the meter went right up and didn't jump aound so I ruled out it being my generator. I think its time to replace the regulator. Any thoughts thanks

    It could be the battery is trying to take more than the generator can give, so the regulator is saving it. Just the way its designed to. Charge the battery more or replace it.
