My COE build thread got closed. I guess I went off topic too much, or maybe I ate too much at the Midwest HAMB BBQ. Maybe the fact that I wanted a flip screen radio with a rear view camera was too far off the traditional concept? On other news, our house purchase inspection revealed so many serious problems that we are cancelling the contract. In a way it is a relief as the garages were too small and the barn was in too bad of shape to be relocated. I'll try and post pictures as I continue my build. A "new" friend posted pictures from the cruise night on this site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/big_smile/sets/72157644492933304/
I saw that. I think the stereo/camera and the house/garage renovations sealed the deal...... Most COE's are pretty OT for the main board anyway, which is why I put my thread on here. I'm afraid when the software changeover happens, many other "OT" threads are going to disappear....
Sorry the new house didn't work out, that bites. I've enjoyed your build and stories in the now closed thread as well. It's a lesson for me to keep all my OT and non traditional chatter here where it's more acceptable.
awww ... i like HAMB , but imho its a little too conservative this is exactly the reason why i did not even bother posting a build thread of my DT... my air ride suspension and air ride cab/sleeper would be too "modern" for the board police. but i do drive the truck a lot ... so i wanted a nice comfortable ride "newer" technology on "drivers cars & trucks" should be allowed
Well, that explains it, I didn't post pictures of the two vintage mowers I negotiated with the house purchase. If they closed my thread because of the house, that was a big loss. I neglected to mention, until now, that the house has a historic car scene connection. The second owner was a very prominent Ford Car Dealer in the 40's, 50's and 60's...too late for the HAMB. They closed my thread before I could show any vintage pictures.
Is there any place on the net where those of us that like COEs would be welcome? The only reason I frequent this forum is the COE stuff, I don't give a rats *** about Dueces, 34s, 40s, or any other "got to have it" hot rods, traditional or otherwise. There are a couple of Yahoo forums, but pictures are a problem there, plus the actual forum layout ****s. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Cl***icCOEs/conversations/messages https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/oldcoetrucks/conversations/messages
WcSteve yeah... i would also be interested in knowing about a forum where we could discus/post our stuff my truck is not a COE (.... well, technically my cab is above the low slung V8 diesel i have in it ) but it is also very unique, so it is hard for me to find a forum where peeps like/tolerate vintage "looking" stuff with a modern touch ... i cant stand checkbook built hotrod sites (aka bling bling billet trailer queens) same goes for fanatic original restorers (i dont want to drive around with a ******** museum) unsure about ratrod sites (it seems many use the ratrod theme as an excuse for ****py craftsmanship) ...
Spartanette, I think you hit the nail on the head with your site ****ysis. BTW I read/watched your build over on Pirate and you got your heart in the right place as far as I'm concerned! COE with a big nose?
I like the HAMB a lot, but I also feel like I was just personally un-welcomed by the moderators. I know it wasn't personal, but it still stings a bit. Mostly because it was done with no explanation or warning and because I am building a very traditionally styled hotrod...albeit a larger one. I don't do anything with the Monkeys except sing along with Daydream Believer...
The gr*** is always greener.......LOL! This is the best place for COE's right here in this group, IMO. I like the HAMB as well, but then I'm into all kinds of vehicles.....
Unfortunately none of my builds fit anywhere that I can find yet. I plan to get going on my dodge sometime and it might fit here on the subforum, but my stuff seems to be enough of a mix of original and realistic newer stuff that makes it usable to the job I want it to do. They don't fit the 100% restore crowd, I can't/don't post my dad's 27 chevy truck on the VCCA because it is not going to be put back all original so they don't even want to talk about it. It will look orig when I am done, just be updated enough to actually drive it. Won't fit here, still has wood wheels and a new 4 banger. My DT is not a hot rod, it has a dump bed and will be used as a work truck, where does that fit? Maybe the aths or ? My 37 gmc doesn't fit the stovebolt really or oldgmctrucks because I am running a bbc with blower, will keep the straight axle but will have new components to be safe and fast etc. Doesn't fit here because it is not a flatty and my choices and methods of building aren't trad enough, but they sure aren't new either. I asked a question once on the main board here a few years ago about fixing/replacing a subframe job on my brothers truck and got blasted, not because of what I was asking but due to the responders failing to actually read the post. People tend to hear/see what they want to. It pretty much ran me off the board except for here. I am not thin skinned, but I don't need to put up with BS from people not reading well enough to even know what I am asking. I feel like the group here on the coe's are enough like minded due to choosing to build these that we aren't going to disrespect each others' choices of frame/drivetrain or even radio. I am mostly over it so I don't let in ruin my day, but I also won't really participate either which kinda ****s too. I am glad that the dough boy started a blog, that is a killer truck and I appreciate the effort to do***ent it and show it to us. I hope you can continue to post your stuff here, I will still read along.
RMR&C, I'm not saying the gr*** is greener somewhere else, but exactly the opposite. I just don't like being on the edge of a cliff waiting for someone to push me off when ever they feel like it. It's bad enough waiting for God to do it! LOL
No doubt the main board seems to be very unpredictable as to what's allowed.... It still is the best one that I have found though.
Ryan makes it very clear what this forum is about. If you're trying to make an old car into a new car, this isn't the forum for you. He says this about once a week when someone complains about a thread being deleted or closed. Not sure why your build thread was closed, but I'm guessing it was getting to modern
I wondered why the thread was closed. I was enjoying your updates on building the box covers and your new place.
At the risk of getting my **** kicked off this site: I may have been too "modern" for wanting (but not actually installing) a radio that folds away and out of sight, But if that is so, how can anyone justify this thread about putting an IPOD into a "certain somebody's" 39 Ford, with all the information about installing amps, subwoofers, etc...? and what about all the guys with CD radio's hidden behind false fronts, or hanging off the bottom of the dash, etc. ? Isn't all that equipment too modern too? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=11082
I noticed that your build thread is visible if you have a link. How about copying it into a thread here in the social group, maybe a condensed version without the other peoples comments, etc. I just got done looking at your build pictures over on Bill Jansen's Oz COE site, some of the pics are older than what you had in your build thread here on the hamb, all very interesting stuff.
