Were putting together a 348 for a 29 tudor have a factory tri power basically stock rebuild with 3:00 gears and a powerglide 29 inch rear tires factory low horse heads cast egge pistons need a cam with some sound without valve clearance problems.block deck untouched and true, thinking an isky 262 but worried about valve clearance .Give me some choices for this everyday driver hambers.thanks man-a-fre

  2. 348's not exactly a torque monster. A cam with some "sound" as you put it usually goes hand in hand with not too good low RPM power. "That" with a not too great 1st gear of the P.G. trans, a fairly tall 29" tire, and 3:00 rear gears isn't the most favorable environment for a cam that may not be too strong at lower RPMs. "THIS" would be my concern before clearance. Unless of course you live in the country where you have more opportunity for speed runs than us city folk. Just another opinion. Like they say, opinion's are like ***holes. Everyone has em, and they all STINK!

Was thinking a isky 262 was gonna be small enough to get me enough torque, and a little bit noticable idle. Not my car,its a locals car im lending a hand on.

  4. I don't know the specs on that cam, but i'll ***ume the 262 is "advertised" duration. In which case should be a pretty good choice. I'll also guess it's around .440-.450 lift????

The Isky 262 has a lift of .488 and the Isky 270 is about as big as you can go with the 9.5 to 1 pistons according to CH Enterprises. I think your buddy will be disappointed with his performance, even in a car that light. I had a T with an auto and ****py gearing (it was a 2.73 I think) and a bicycle could have beat me for the first 60 feet. If he insists on the glide I think you'll want to find a rear with gearing around 3.50 and guys used to use Vega converters for the higher stall speed but I don't know how well they held up.
