I have a 292 bored .040 an rods and mains .010. I picked up a 4 barrel Clifford intake and long tube headers for it. Clifford recommended a 390cfm Holley, but I can't afford one, so I bought a 550cfm and am about to rebuild it and put it on. Should I run smaller jets and power valve? I'm new to carbs so don't know much.

Another question is what flex plate and starter do I need when I put my th350 behind the six in replacement of the 3 speed?

    Thanks in advance!

That should be fine. I ran a 650 Double pumper on a very warm 250 for years and a 465 ( list number 1848) on a stock 250 with intake and headers in my truck for years .I ran a stock 600( 1850 list #) CFM - as in no changes- on a stock 292 with headers and marine cam and clifford intake - hope you got the heated intake - it makes life more livable even in MS it gets cold.
The standard SBC auto flywheel and starter -for a 350- bolts right on.

    No.
Rebuild the carb. stock and put it on.

Then...after you do some freeway driving, check the spark plugs. They should be light tan in color. Any darker, remove fuel, much lighter, add fuel.

The power valve will depend partially on the cam. Check your actual vacuum after the engine is warm and otherwise tuned well. Then decide on a power valve. Most likely, it's fine as is.

The ignition timing needs to be set to what the engine wants also. This is normally more thAn the "book" timing.

The V8 flywheels will fit 194, 230 and 250 but I am pretty sure that the 292 has larger bolts holding the flywheel on. According to the O'Reilly's cheat sheet http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/PTQ5/NFW1036/02271.oap?year=1968&make=Chevrolet&model=C10+Pickup+RWD&vi=1029721&ck=Search_02271_1029721_4398&pt=02271&ppt=C0338 the 292 flywheel also fits 235 and 261 but I have my wonderments about that.
With these Pioneer numbers finding a flexplate shouldn't be hard to come up with. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...ickup+RWD&vi=1029721&year=1968&make=Chevrolet
