A little update on the beast. Got it to the garage and aired up three of the tires and they actually held air. The p***enger front is toast so I have replaced that with a used tire and a new tube so we now have the car up in the air and off the ground as it should be. Started on the nasty job of removing the interior. Have stripped all the material off the doors, seats and headliner. Pulled all the garnish moldings and have started to bead blast them and then I will prime them to hold them for later. Despite setting for so long I was surprised to find that all four wheels turn quite easily. This week we will give the engine some attention. Hope to hear it run. It is now clear to me that I will not be able to keep this car as I have way too many projects and too little time so I will be putting this in the cl***ifieds soon. More to come as we work on the engine this week.

Update! We pulled out the old battery and replaced it with a new 12volt unit. Replaced the points with a set of '50 Olds unit (same points) that I had lying around. Installed a used 12v coil and condenser. Poured some gas in the carb and stuck a line in a gas can going to the fuel pump. The old straight 8 coughed once and fired right up! Had to run it on full choke for a minute and the carb cleared up and after it warmed up a bit it sets there and idles at around 600 rpm's. One lifter is a bit noisy but no big deal. No leaks and good oil pressure.
Had to remove the radiator and reverse flush it to get it cleaned out of the mouse nests before we tried to start the engine. The engine had antifreeze in it which I suspect had a lot to do with it's condition.
Since we were on a roll we thought we would see if it would move and to our surprise it shifted into gear and the clutch worked as it was intended to. We moved it forward and then in reverse.

Still have a bit of cleaning to do in the interior and then I will reinstall the stripped seats and primed garnish moldings. I have put the car up in the cl***ifieds and on CL. Much interest so I suspect it will be gone shortly.

that awesome. my 48 super sat for 20 years in florida and I did the same to my engine and it was the smoothest running straight 8 I ever heard and I drove it everywhere. here in sunny los angeles I ran 20-50 oil in it and poured lucas over the rockers. never had a problem.
    keep it up!!

Here is an odd observation about the old Buick. We found the 6 volt coil hooked up with positive going to the distributor but the old 6 volt battery was set up with a negative ground! I ***ume that the old Buicks and GM's were negative ground which makes us wonder how this ran well wired that way. I have never reversed a coil before so I am not sure of the consequences. Anyone ever tried that before.....just curious of the results.
