What do we all need to know about the inside of 40-48 rims? Note that two have a taper, that may make mounting a tire easier and the one on the left has matching sides next to the inner drop. I'll be using four that look like the one on the left, just would like to know what year they are really from. Thanks. Bob
I agree here. It's my understanding that the true 40' wheels are straight-straight in the rivet area as opposed to straight-angle. All my wheels with two straight walls have date stamps of late 39' or 40'. It's been my experience that it takes a lot longer to find good ones with two straight walls compared to the straight-angle ones.
THANKS! This was a great wheel find, I have 4 1940 wheels, no stamped dates but Ford script with the KH Helsey Hayes stamp. Sandblasting and primer are next. Bob
Yes, they do like they are in great shape! Check the inside of the wheel near the valve stem hole too. Here is an example of that type that says "16x4.0" upside down "4" "40"
