I have a 32 style hood for my 29 Model A. I plan on running just the two hood tops and I have the 32 style hood retainers but I don't knows how I'm going to hold it down. Have any of you done this before? I want the hood sides open top show off the header and intake and carb and polished valve cover. HELP !!!
I've welded a bolt on each end of the hood (inside bead roll) and added tabs to the firewall and grill shell . Unseen except the tabs when hood is open. A wingnut is all I use to tighten.. Its been on there for 20 years..
Try "Restoration Hardware", (310) 458-7992, if you are interested in the springs that they used to use on sprint cars to hold the hoods down. Wish I had a picture but they may have a web site or may be able to explain it better. Charlie Stephens
On my 36 pickup I fabbed a ring which fastened to the lower inside edge of each hood side...ran a bungee cord between the 2. Hood tops are held onto the car by the center hinge. Bungees keep the lower edge of the tops clamped down and against the cowl. Easy to remove and the bungee is out of sight. Cheap but effective.
I made a rod that is peaked like a half triangle (slight) that slips right into rod channels, my hood has the sides removed (the rod slides into this). Take a look at the pictures. I can take more pictures if needed. You will notice the rod is black in picture. I cannot take credit for this, I copied this from a fellow hot rodder.
this is what I did with mine...I use the rubber t-handle type with the ball end on them.....bolted flatstock to firewall and grill shell...welded the c-brackets for the balls on to the flatstock....then just used existing hinge hoops underneath the hood with a short piece of rod through the hinge on the bracket......works like a dream.......turned out pretty good , I think anyway
The car? I have no idea, just Googled "Dzus Fasteners" to give the OP an idea what I was talking about in case he didnt already know.
There are a bunch of ways to do this,I used a screen door spring stretched between the underside of the two hood tops. HRP
Not very original, but my old T wasn't nearly as nice as the cars already in this thread. I was going for an old gow look.
I used harness leather, coachman loops and horse collar latches. Bought the stainless steel zig-zag springs 15 years ago for $100 bucks.
