Hey guys! I have given up on finding another coe door for my 54 chevy and have picked up some rust free awesome regular cab doors and plan on converting them or atleast the driver door to work on my coe. Im pretty familiar at fabing as Ive done restorations n collision work for 20 plus years, and am pretty sure I can do it. Just wondering if anyone else has done it and have any pointers or cautions....?
Yeah I knew that ill use my old door forthe parts n dimensions ill need, as faras I can see the only real differences are the cut out area for the fender and the hinges im gonna try it atleast. Atleast on the driver door its wayyyyy bad but the p***enger isnt so bad its salvagable but if the driver door goes well I may do the pasenger too!

Ive been working on my doors some whenever I get a chance and after getting my coe door sitting next to a regular cab door the similarities and differences are pretty neat! Like there is a hinge point for a regular door on the coe door just no hole for the hinge to go into the shell.
Worked on my driver's door today a little, first I made a template from the COE door skin, and transferred it to the regular cab door, then added for the folded over edge and commenced to cut! Also took the old lower hinge mount out of the COE door blasted it and coated with weld thru primer. Also managed to make a copy of the curved part that is specific to the COE door. Everything seems to be going well, this may actually work! By the way did I mention that I only gave $50 for both of these doors! They've got minimal pin holes at the botom most of which was at the front which I cut off anyways!
Well for those who wanna know....... a regular cab door will work on a coe , IF you have the coe doors to donate from! Today I managed too get the lower hinge switched around, the new piece of sheet metal fabbed put in, and the door crimped onwhere the fender relief is. I didnt get to the upper hinge yet but I couldn't resist a test fit. I will say that if anyone NEEDS a door for their 47 thru early 55 chevy gmc COE, with a little fab work it can be done with a regular cab door! More pics to come after I get the upper hinge swapped.

Looks great! And a smoking price on the door shells! I anticipate doing this on my rusty Houston-sourced cabover doors... I think mine are a bit easier as I'm fairly confident the mid 50s ford hinges are all the same. Will have to check against my F-100 though...
There's a pair of white 1955 Ford Coe doors on eBay. They've been for sale for ever. Seems nobody needs them.
Iyeah I liked the price on the door shells too! Wish I had the cash to buy up everything the old man has, I could be rich after resaleing it all, fell has a barn, ba*****t and 2 car garage full of 47 thru early 55 gm truck parts.
yeah, at $250 a pop, I'll keep the intentions of radiusing F-100 doors like wessssay! that '56 coe cab/doors in Ohio makes me feel better about my purchase though... JML
