I recently questioned a shop in Nashville about rechroming my bumbers and grill. I was a little put off by the nearly 2500.00 for the bumbers and 1400.00 for the grill. I'm wondering if anyone in my area (Tennessee) has had any chroming done, if so where. I would like to shop around a little before spending that kind of money. Even a shop in nearby KY,GA.AL. Ralph
I have an extra grille in nice shape, I will have to dig it out and can send pics, but im pretty sure its in excellent condition, btw those prices are outrages, How does anyone expect to stay in business
Since all that EPA **** has driven businesses out of the USA with all the over regulation,a lot of the shops in Arizona are doing the prep and taking stuff across the border for the chroming.
Was that the same shop that had a booth at the recent Goodguys event? I can't remember the name but here is only 1 place in Nashville isn't there? Anyways, have you looked at replacement bumpers already chromed? I know at plenty swapmeets there are bumper people there with a truck load of bumpers. Btw, it's funny this post popped up because I was washing my 56 on Saturday and thought about getting my bumpers redone.
Yes that was the shop with the booth at Goodguys. They were so unfriendly I don't know why they were there.
I know there is a place in So Cal that has good prices, but I'm sure that doesn't help since shipping would average your cost to about what the shop close to you wants.
I had my bumpers and parking lights done at Dans polishing and chrome in Adamsville TN. They are triple plated and I was real pleased with the work. He gave me a shop tour and showed me how they do everything, seemed real knowledgeable. I didnt do the grill because I hope to build a custom stainless grill one day. I believe I paid $450 front, $500 rear, and $175 for each parking light and extension. The parking lights are pot metal by the way, and he knew what to do with them. So $1300 for both bumpers (without guards) and both parking lights and extensions, triple plated. He said it was $500 for the grill to be triple plated, at the time, 2 years ago. http://danspolishingandchrome.com Some before and after
What K5mog said...and the prices seem more in line to the norm than what the op was quoted. LOL...I lucked out last year on a front bumper. I had seen nice replated ones at the swap meets in the high 300's if I remember, but hadn't bought one because I wanted my bumper guard holes welded shut at an additional cost of $100. I saw a few wrapped ones in Decatur last year, one of them marked "NG". The guy didn't know what the "NG" meant, we joked about it usually meaning "no good", so he called his boss. His boss had personally done that one as a special order for a customer who never picked it up...the "NG" meant "no guards", and told him to take $75 off the normal price because it had been modified!. I not only lucked out finding one with the guard holes already closed up for $175 less than if I had them do mine, but the damn thing was the most perfect one I had seen!
This is why it costs so much here: http://savingusmanufacturing.com/bl...quences-of-u-s-environmental-protection-laws/ You might get an estimate from this company: http://www.finishing.com/shops/industrial/ips.shtml
Tri City Plating in Elizabethan,Tenn. did my bumpers on my 54 and they will chrome yours or swap out with you. I'm sure th e price has gone up some but they allowed me $100 bucks for my rusty and dented bumpers and my total for both came out at a little over $800 bucks....this was about 5 years ago. HRP
Try Tri-city plating in TN. They said about the same for the bumpers and also 800 to do the grill, this was for my 56 Also lifetime warranty.
