Ok, so I moved around a couple of 28 stearns knights yesterday, and am wondering what kind of extreme measures could be taken with something this big(whack it, beat it) by the way theres 5 of these left in the world for this model. If the restorers find out about this, I could be taken in the middle of the night.

I might be on my own on this but, with something that rare I think it should be restored. I love hot rods but I'm also a history buff, and I think that thing deserves a little better than to be chopped up. I think it would be shame to see such a rare piece of history denigrated just for the sake of a cool ride. Just my $0.02.

You could sell it to Leno and build two rods and a new house.

We all know you're gonna violate it and turn it into a gangsta rod, then sell it to turn a 32 three winder. But you better hurry cuz some of us know where it's being stored! :D

Saw a very close brother to this one at Fremont Inliners Nats about '81 or '82. Looked like a stocker, had a '64 Buick 425/400 TH powertrain with all the retrorod A/C,PS,PB,cruise stuff well disguised. Must have been 20 feet long-these were HUGE cars of extremely high quality and price when new.

10 to 1 say's the big giant fella has a "Tommy Gun" on the running board. It's gonna be hard to get that one in the back of the International.

I won't tell you what to do with it, except to point out that its just another example of rare does not always = valuable. I've got a '34 Hupmobile 4 door sedan in storage; it might become a chopped-up hot rod, maybe a resto-rod, but it would cost at least twice its market value to restore to original.

Its a cool car the way it is and looks to be all there. Why not do an engine and trany swap, some wide whites and do up the interor the way you want and leave the body the way it is the would be super cool.

The thing about rare cars is that even if its the only one if nobdy else wants to buy it it ant worth much. Wich kind of ****s.

I pretty much agree with Mule Farmer. Resurect it just enough to make it functional. Dust off the body & interior. Get it running & SAFE (upgraded brakes, lights, wiring, seatbelts)... and drive it.

Hot rod it. Thats the true way, build what YOU want. I would do all modern drivetrain with independent front and rear. NO body work, just a restoration of sorts. I think it would be awesome for that barge to fly by you on the freeway going like 75-80 miles an hour. Just purrring.

Someone like Leno may pay a fair price.....maybe a chance for Barrett-Jackson to help rather than hurt.....

I don't think you should chop it up. Here's why...... mostly because of history, but mainly because it'd be a LOT of work to make it look half way decent as a rod. The only thing that makes it look half way decent is that it has some nostalgia...........other than that, it's pretty ugly.......just my opinion.....

There's plenty of opinions to go around, this one's on me! Opinions on the house!

I agree with Barz51...that's big rare car. As far a old stuff goes, that's a pretty modern looking 28. Here's the thing...some of those are eligable for CCCA recognition. That particular car looks like it may even have custom coachwork. You said one of five right? Does it have a coachbuilder's tag on the firewall or right lower cowl? How about on the doorsills? I must ***ume you're an educated car guy at some level. You said you moved 2 of them? One's a parts car?

I think you might have something more there than you think. I'd search the living **** outta that piece before I made any choices. And I don't agree that with a Concours-level restoration it's only worth 20K.

Personally I'd "restore" it. not Concours quality but nice. Then drive the heck out of it. Think of the history of that thing...and think of how much fun it would be just driving an original car like that. Not everything would makea good looking hot rod, i've seen some bad examples of big old cars that someone tried to rod and it just didn't work. I don't know of any real car guys that wouldn't love to look that thing over and drive it like it is at least once.

I think the most cost effective thing to do is to just get it running and roadworthy, don't cut it up. As someone said, making it look good with major mods could be really difficult. Think of the looks you'd get if you were driving it around looking pretty much just like it does now. It'd get all the looks and more when compared to modified or shiney. Later power done without butchery wouldn't be too bad.

Think about this: Not all that many years ago you couldn't give a '58 Chevy away. Now you have to be rich to own one.

Another thought or two. What do you want for it? What has been offered? What would you trade for?

And if you must cut it up, here is a winner, in my opinion. Remove the body. Make a looooong speedster body for it. Keep the original stuff. Then you will have a cool early type rod, and a mere body switch brings it back to full stock just in case they become hot stuff to collectors. I like that car, wish it was mine.

I have modified my '41 Cad Model 75 5 p***enger formal touring sedan. It is rare, I have a 472 Cad engine and trans in it. All else is pretty much stock. It does have power brakes and the 472 radiator. It'd be easy to take back if it ever became worth big money. I still have the stock wheels and 16" wide whites on it, even a single exhaust. If you didn't look under the hood, you'd never know it. The local HD dealer has modified a big old '30's cl***ic, a Packard or LaSalle, or something like that. It looks like a restored stock car for the most part. It's your car, but I wonder if you might regret it in later times if you modify it too much. The same effort put into a '32-'34 Ford 4 door sedan would bring more money when you are done, and be easier to sell.

Cool old car!! Modernize it, shine it up and drive it coast to coast. It would be hell of a lot neater and about as comfy as a diesel pusher motorhome. Make sure you expand your wardrobe to include some pinstriped suits and black ties!

Why in tarnation are you asking?

  29. Munster's Coach... or something equally as dumb. It'll never be a cool rod, and it's obviously not about helping a survivor remain a survivor, so you might just as well turn it into a monster truck or crush it.

"agree to my demands or the Stearn gets it"... or how about you just p*** it along to someone who cares about those cars and not worry about a m***ive profit?
