I guess mounting it behind the grill wouldn't be an option would it? Mount it on a hinge with a choke cable to raise and lower it. If you get pulled over, push the choke cable forward lowering the plate.......

" Mr. Officer" what do you mean the plate is not on the front??!!!??

I think I'd ask around. Some places the police don't worry about the front plate. The painted bumper don't look too bad.

Geeeze...THAT bumper looks familiar...!!! Here in ColoRODo, I've never run a front plate, altho the regs say I must...I'd never had one on the front of my Stude, and as you can see from my avatar, don't have on on the front of the Caddy either... but since my cars are all shiny and nice, I think the cops just overlook the fact there isn't a plate out front...

As for yours, I'd mount it center of the bumper and centered on the bumper-build a smallish simple bracket to hold it and you're good to go...!!!

Get any of those books read yet...???

  5. Ya I smoked thru the first two or three books and then the Stude called so I will save the others for the fireside this winter.I loved the books!!! Ya that bumper should look familiar! Took me long enough to mount it! Tis only mockup fer now... I cut about 5 inches outta that ****er so far...might peak the middle a bit and then drill it fulla holes! Gotta lose that extra poundage! I yam gonna leave the plate off (under the seat mebbe...) and see how that goes...at least I gotta legal bumper on it now,Thanks to 40 StudeDude for sellin me a bumper outta his private stash, and at a killer price also! (Two extra rations of raisin pie for you Roger!) P.S. You outdid yerself on the Caddy Rog!!! STUNNING!!!!

Personally I like the way it looks without the bumper, just tie the front plate to the grill, but if it were mine and I had to run a front bumper I'd break out the drill and the hole saws and swiss cheese the hell out of it and then paint it some kind of "new car" dull silver to kinda give it an brushed aluminum look.

I don't have a front bumper on my Plymouth, my front plate is mounted to the front cross member. I got pulled into a "$afety checkpoint" without a front bumper and no front plate, had 3 cops looking over my car, 2 of em' were asking what year?, what motor?, nice car etc... cop #3 asked where's the front plate? I had it on the front seat with me. All he said was it must be displayed on the front of the vehicle and to have a nice day. Yes sir officer, will do. They weren't too concerned about the missing front bumper, just the plate.

  8. Ya I am gonna stash the plate under the seat and remove the bumper and leave it in the garage as is until I am forced to run it. I have it,it fits and is legal. I can remove/install in about 5 minutes so no down time if it becomes a h***le! I like it with out the bumper much better as well!

I like it ether way, well I don't care for the upside down rusty bumper.

But bumper or not they both look good to me and if you can get away with no tag throw it under the set,,,just don't drive around if you have had a few beers,,it would be a bummer to get stopped for no tag and end up behind bars for drinking and driving. HRP

Use the bumper for a "buck" and make one out of fiber gl***.

I put my license on a bracket bolted to the U bolts that hold the front axle to the left leaf spring.
It's on there in my avatar, but hidden at that angle.
Not having one is just one more thing for the cops to write a revenue ticket for here in CA and they do.

Fred has the right idea , fibregl*** and make a tree style mount to take it off and mold the plate into it . for some weird reason Ill is enforcing the front plate law this year ( got pulled over for a non readable front plate on my O/T ( the plate was bent back under /around the front bumper )

I like the look. Far less h***le from the cops. Once they get you on their radar they tend to target you. Don't give them a reason. Besides, it adds to the charm. (The car's not yours)

No front plate gives the cops reasonable cause to stop you, so don't give them that edge. I like the look of the black bumper, it blends in nicely. Play around with the front plate location, it doesn't look that good to me hanging down like that.

Just put that front plate on a hinge, let it fold back at speed . When you stop it'll
    flop back down, no foul!

I think it would look good with that same bumper chrome plated along with a very simple, low profile license plate guard attached to the bumper.

  18. rearview launch.jpg I might just run without a front one till winter if I dont get h***led. The rear bumper is peaked in the center and I think will look better on the front and the curve of the (now) front bumper will look better on the back...
