Vega boxes are good for cross steer not so usually for traditional. Last issue of r and c has one upside down on a dropped 32 frame but the pitman arm sticks up ( which was ok for that build ) but usually the pitman arm needs to point downward and in that case it would steer the car backwards. May need a reversed corsair box?
Inquiring minds would like to know. I have a build which will need the pitman arm up, but still undecided on what box. This is for a QE front end. Anyone have the info?
You take the worm shaft out and put it in from the other end so it steers from the other end. You put a plug where the shaft originaly came out and machine the cap for a seal on the other end. Done.
Got to remember that this was built for a Vega-it's good for a light car but not really for something big and heavy, or maybe even with lots of front end weight. Aftermarket Vega style boxes might be better, but I don't know.
In the article, it says they just turned the Vega box on its side. There was no mention of reversing the Vega box in there. I think he just flipped the box and welded the mount on so that the steering column could bolt up while the normal bottom of the steering box poked perpendicular through the frame. If you think about the clockwise rotation (from driver's perspective looking down on a typical Vega box) it would push the rear of the right wheel into a left-hand turn. If that same clockwise rotation was pivoted, it would push the steering hoop on the left wheel into a left-hand turn.
that's they way I understood it also. guess ill have to try my Vega box like they have it and see if it would work.
