In my humble opinion a real steel truck is worth a hell of a lot more than some piece of Fibergl*** that anyone can get!!!
The serial number was not on the back of the block. For the 4 cylinder engine the number was on a pad on the flywheel housing and for the V8 it was on a pad on the transmission. I agree with you on the number being 3 places on top of the left frame rail. Charlie Stephens
I can understand that you have given this a lot of thought and I agree with your reasoning, if it all works out and all are happy that's what counts. Good luck with it Danny. JW
So what you're saying is that you can have a car that is more what you want by simply making a body swap? Steel deuce roadster? On a ch***is that you know intimately? I'm sorry, what was the question again?
While I really like the pickup you did a fine job on it myself I would vote for going for the change IF it gets you the added room you need to be more comfortable. More comfort means probably more driving time and more fun.
Sell him your truck complete. Surely he doesn't happen to have a ch***is ready and waiting for your truck cab, fenders etc. Sell the truck, frame and ***le in exchange with the roadster body and the cash difference. Find another original 32 ch***is and ***le it " 2 door " as body type. Your truck is KILLER, and it has a better chance staying that way ***embled. Once you take it apart, you may get sick to see how it may be put back together by someone else.
Parts is Parts, I'd go for the Roadster body swap in a heartbeat. The DMV stuff can be worked out even if you have to use other states. If you take the cab and bed off your ch***is, spray some flat black primer on the Roadster body, install it on your ch***is, add an upholsted seat would you use up a month of spair time? Bob
C'mon, Danny! You've always been able to come up with solutions before, surprised you haven't hit on this obvious one! Move your seat, steering wheel, and pedals to the back of the truck, and drive from the bed! Of course, you could just make her an RPU..............
I had rather see you trade it to someone for a roadster and keep your truck in tact, but this is just another opinion......I really like your truck and hate to see it took apart.......it's kinda like when the army shaved Elvis' head years ago.......kinda takes the seasoning factors out of the salt.......................Tanner
Its your truck, so you can do what you like to it, but its a damn fine truck. As its a comfort issue, I understand why you wanted to do it though. What did you end up doing? Inquiring minds...
Am 6'3". I found a good jump seat, plastered it against the back of the cab and adjusted the column position. Am totally comfortable. But of course mine isn't chopped either. And the 32 firewall is alittle tighter than the 33-34's. Nothing wrong with it but sounds to me like you are just shopping for a new project. Didn't see it for sale. How much you asking?
If I had a sedan and the wagon done, I can see this to make sense. I love roadsters and would get a lot more enjoyment from having one in the warm weather seasons. You still have the closed cars for the cooler times of the year or if the little woman doesn't want to get her hair messed up and be cold. What ever you do, think long and hard about it.
HRP we know there is more head room in the roadster but your issue is the leg room.....do roadsters have more? My Model A roadster and my 3'2 pickup are pretty close.
HRP - I agree with all of the opinions posted both pro and con but with us "old" guys time is more of the essence than anything else and then factor in the comfort of a roadster vs the truck. If you make the swap you have a proven drivetrain/ch***is and you are back on the road quicker (vs a full build or even a personalizing of a driving car to replace the truck). If I lived closer I would be over to help - hell, lets have a "body swap" party and a bunch of us can come over and get 'er done in a weekend .... As for your cheapshot, Jack, for your information I CAN see over the horn ****on but just BARELY over the wheel! For your punishment you are to ride in my roadster for 3 hours with your head crooked over to one side the whole time -....
A few years ago, I replaced the body/ box of my '29 roadster pickup with a sedan body to extend my car season up here. All I had to do with motor vehicles branch was re-weigh it. But to satisfy my collector plate I had to have another mechanical inspection.
I am the kind of guy that wouldn't be happy with something that I traded for,I'm just funny like that. I'm in a holding pattern, the guy that has the roadster body got a ***le but it was registered as a 2014 kit car....no deal. HRP
Steel or otherwise, why would you take a complete running genuine article 1932 Ford pickup and put a replica body on it? Sell the thing to someone who will appreciate it for what it is and move on.
If you swapped your truck would that mean that you would have to change your avatar? Ask your self, could you live with a different avatar?
I don't see much of a dilemma here. If your truck is limiting your use due to your physical limitations I would move on as well, the kit car registration would hold me back as well on this deal. Wait for sale or till something else catches your fancy.
I know it probably varies state to state but, I bought a few coupes transferred the ***le at the DMV in Minnesota specifically asked them to transfer the ***le as a coupe and they say how many doors does it have .... I say 2 they say... It's a 2dr ... I say no coupe... Sorry sir no designation for that... So I get 2dr ***les... One magical day I go to a different DMV same convo. Happens... Lo and behold I get a coupe ***le.... CP not 2dr.... So what I mean by this long winded statement is... That person at the DMV has the ability to change designation.... You just need to talk to someone with knowledge who actually gives a ****. A friend in California got pulled over after he put a coupe body on his truck frame, got a fixit ticket , I believe it was fairly painless there to recl***ify the car ..
