Alright guys, I have found a 55' that I really like and the owner wants to tell me its super rare options and talk the car up. I have no idea on the 55's what is rare or common options. Its in decent shape, its fixable and pretty straight. The dash has a clear cover behind speedo that lets light it- one of what the owner calls rare. Anyway, if I could get some help decifering the Body Tag 70B-K-AU-15C-KS8609B Its a Y block with Fordomatic Thanks
LOL that is the stock speedo. All 55's came with them. Sounds like nothing more than a stock 55. Mine came with a 272 Y-Block, Ford-o-matic. If possible post pics of the car. I think probably the only rare options would be a Crown Vic with a gl*** roof, see through hood (For dealers to show off the engine) and an AC car. Other then that I believe everything else was standard run of the mill.
Sounds like a pretty standard 2 door Customline Sedan like mine. Like others said, there isn't too much in the way of rare options on these.
What would be a good price for one of these? Its pretty solid, has rust around headlights, some around wheel wells and one hole in the rockers, bumpers and grill are in great shape. Interior is there but mostly gone has 5 rims and the motor isnt stuck. Again its in Kansas so....I am a little loss. I dont want to get it and then figure out I payed way too much for it.
70B-K-AU-15C-KS8609B Tudor Customline Sedan, buckskin brown in colour, white vinyl with brown cloth with copper fleck seat facings, built on the 15th March. I can provide photos of the original trim as I had mine reproduced by Lebarron Bonney - took 10 months for them to get the cloth in stock. Their attention to detail was astonishing.
That does not sound solid to me. It would have to be very cheap but ultimately I would not be interested with that much rust. These cars are very affordable and if you watch ebay and CL and other car sites you can buy pretty decent cars for around $5k. Just my opinion but people think by fixing it themselves they are going to save all kinds of money. If the rockers are gone and around the headlight are gone it has seen some serious snow duty up north. I bet the underneath is toast. You are looking at a few thousand dollars in parts alone plus all the time and effort to change them.
What is your definition of "rust"? To get a better idea of how bad the rust is you need to post pictures of the rust areas. Even here in the sunny southwest it is getting hard to find Fords of this vintage without at least a little rust.
Rick, I would like to see the Photos!! I now own the car. I am comfortable with what I spent on it and happy to own one! I will post pics once I get it home and cleaned up. Sad part is I dont have room for it and the 53' so I think the 53' is going to be headed down the road.
I will post pictures of the trim when I can get down to where the car is. It will take a few days. I have it in storage as I am not ready for it to be fitted in the car. Here is a pic of the door trims.
While LeBaron Bonney makes extremely nice original looking upholstery kits be aware you had better garage or keep your car under cover since the UV resistance is poor to put it nicely. Rather incredible how much my 57 Custom Tudor seats have faded in one years time . . .
what cons***utes a rough car depends greatly on your location... i've seen two Nebraska cars on e-bay that look restorable in my eyes that would probably set most of your heads spinning. add to that the fact that good cars are hauled to the s****per every day by people who just don't care about anything but cash, and EVERY potential project seems worthwhile. i will never try to talk someone out of giving a car a chance at revival. btw it's sad that lebaron gets high prices for low longevity. these aren't art pieces hanging in museums; these are cars meant to be driven.
Yeah, I hear what you are saying about LeBaron Bonney but at the time I organized my interior no-one else was reproducing. I believe they have now shipped it out to ABC Interiors. The vinyl is real thick and of good quality - it is yet to be seen how the cloth on the seats holds up. I dont have the trim in the car yet, but it isnt too far from going in. Here is a picture of what AU trim designation means. <a href="http://s994.photobucket.com/user/Rick55_photos/media/IMG_2763.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af67/Rick55_photos/IMG_2763.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2763.jpg"/></a> <a href="http://s994.photobucket.com/user/Rick55_photos/media/IMG_2762.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af67/Rick55_photos/IMG_2762.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_2762.jpg"/></a>
Doesn't look much different to how mine started out. Here's how the body has turned out. Just about to instal 0.060" over 292 and later model FMX. Then it will almost be a car again.
