when they were putting the issue together the guys doing all the work most likely did not know it was the last issue
My Son hadn't heard about them closing and came into the shop the other night with his latest issue. I told him to frame it because it will probably be a collectors item. So many of the magazines we grew up loving have either changed so much or are gone. Hot Rod, R &C, Hot Rod Mechanix, etc. But it isn't surprising, they cost so much per issue at the news stand these days, and if you take a subscription you may not get all you paid for before they go out of business. (My Son just renewed his R &C subscription) The internet has changed the world in more ways than one. Don
Ok. So I get one more with my subscription that goes through March of '16. . That's two more than I thought I was going to get.
Got mine today too. Funny, yesterday or the day before I got the junk mail asking me to renew my subscription.
Got mine too, and a email that said they would extend my Streetrodder sub for the rest of the time I had left on R/C
Well, I haven't checked the mail yet today.. But I did get a call yesterday from a guy trying to renew my subscription to (drum roll please----- tadddaaa!) Rod & Custom! Had no clue what I was talking about when I said "there ain't no way I'm giving my credit card number to a magazine that went out of business 2 weeks ago". His response "Um, I'll have to ask my boss about that. Wanna buy a different magazine instead?" It wouldn't have mattered cause I don't give my cc number to some guy that calls and says he's with a magazine. I wait to call them thank you very much.
Yeah, I received an e-mail to my inquiry on Tuesday that the October 2014 issue will be the last issue of Rod & Custom. I'll be getting HOT Rod for the rest of my 2 year subscription. I'm so happy I could just ****. I've really enjoyed R&C and sure hate to see it go!
The fact that the September issue is coming out in June suggests how far ahead the magazine business is on printing and shipping. Hell, I wonder if the printers even know that R&C won't be sending them anymore layouts to print...
pick up an issue of "The Rodders Journal", you won't be disappointed. It is sad in a way to R&C go, even though I haven't bought a copy for years (can't stand all the ads they cram into it)
When I heard about changes at Rod and Custom on the hamb I called the subscription number. They acted like the knew nothing about any changes. I told the woman I talked to that I didn't want digital issues or subs; I wanted to cancel. She said September would be my last issue and I would get a check in 30 days. I think the bean counters kept it under wraps. Stay tuned.
I spoke to the publishing company rep this past weekend at York. He told me it was true that R&C was kaput, and that the lower level people in the company found out about it just before the subscribers did. He further stated that it wud never be revived in his opinion. When I asked why they wud cancel out a mag that has been around since 1953, albeit with a couple vacations, instead of another mag, he told me, "most people don't like R&C."
R&C is one of the only magazines I subscribe to because it's one of the only magazines that have nice traditional style cars. I'm sure I'm not alone. Sounds more like the higher up don't like R&C.
If they are going to extend a Street Rodder subscription by as many months as we have left on our R&C subscriptions, we should all be extending our R&C subscriptions as the cost is about a third as much.
I would make sure you are "extending" your street rodder opposed to getting double issues. They ****ed that up on me a few years ago.
If you receive duplicate or "doubled up" issues, call the circulation department - the toll-free tel number is listed in the fine print on the magazine information page. They will extend your subscription (probably to "whatever's available today") for the number of duplicate issues you have received. BTW, whoever first said "you get what you pay for" knew what he was talking about. Subscribe to The Rodders Journal. It never disappoints and it's written by rod and custom gearheads with serious professional credentials (like research, writing, photography and P***ION) for friends, family and HAMBers.
I spoke with a customer rep there, she said they are planning to send me Motor Trend for the remainder of my subscription. How nice of them to ***UME that I'd want Motor Trend. Told her no thanks, if I wanted Motor Trend, I'd have subscribed to it already. Sheesh! Refund is on the way.
Got my August R&C issue few days ago with an attachment saying "Act Now, This Issue is Your Last". So if I renew I'll get switched to SR? Not good...
I couldn't believe that they were hawking R&C subs at the L.A.R.S. this weekend, I just about laughed my *** off when I walked by their booth.
boy, do i feel like a clone! my r&c sub goes thru may'16 and i just extended my street rodder sub. hope i live long enough to read 'em all. plus, a google check on r&c shows they're still hawking subs! sounds like a "bait-and switch" to me!
