Pictures from 3 old yards,..... Hillards, one in Boyne City,... can't remember where the other one was. I understand with the exception of Hillards,.. it was all crushed in the mid 90's ( for that time all of these cars would have been concidered to "Rough" to work with) 1933 Dodge sedan delivery
There a HUGE similar one in Winn, just SW of Mt. Pleasant. Almost all 40-60s iron...some in reasonable shape. The guy was very old the last time I was there a couple of years ago, so who knows how the yard is now...
That might be Hillards in Vestaburg. I've heard about it, but never been there. If these are typical Mich. yards, the sheet metal and frames are too rusted to be saved by the average Joe. Steve
As I mentioned in the first post, some of those pictures were taken at Hillards. Someone told me recently that old man Hillard died, he was always overpriced and it wasen't uncommon for him to quote you a price, then jack it way up just before you paid for it. (after it was off the car or towed to the gate) I don't know if he died of natural causes or someone just got cranked !
That sounded like him! I wasn't sure of the name of it...Great yard to walk through...bad to buy from! I wonder what'll happen to all those cars if he died!
Man! Forgot about Hillard's I have a couple of pics from the late 70's/early 80's also. I think that is all I could afford at the time. A guy from traverse also showed me a deuce sedan body and frame in a ravine. (we left it there how dumb is that?) Fred
Wow! I use to live in Blanchard, Mi. which was about 5 miles from Hillards. You couldn't buy nothing from that old guy, so most the kids in the area would do the 5 finger discount at night. Kinda sad, he would just let those old cars rot away, rather then sell them for a reasonable price! I did buy a SBC from the guy once, and after it was loaded in my pickup, he tried to double the price on me.
Yep,....... That is exactly what that old fart would do with a smile on his face. A friend and I drove there from Detroit once to buy a 37 Chevy coupe, it was just plain junk if we didn't need all the little parts we never would have bothered because this thing was just unsaveable, but he wouldn't sell parts off of it, on the phone he tells us $750. ( way to much for the time) we drive like 125 miles with the trailer in tow, only for the old fart to stop us at the gate and say,.... " I've been thinking about it boys and I got to have $1,500 for her", I felt like beating him to death with one of his ill tempered grungy yard dog's,...... last time I was ever there.
