    Pics below

Hello y'all! I'm an overall newb to domestic, hot rod, rat rod, and I'm so glad I found this place. Pleasure to meet everyone.

Well here's my story. I'm opening a small Organic bistro in Coral Gables, FL which was established early 50's so I though it would be kinda cool to have a 50's car parked outside... Now I'm a big time Toyota fan even owning a 1000hp Supra, yet I've always loved classics so I started searching. I came across this older man that his wife had passed away and he had 8 cars worth of memories and didn't want to keep so many around other than thoughts of her when he went fishing. That being said he was willing to part with two cars he had in his warehouse. A '54 ford Tudor customline v8 y-block w/ 3 on the tree and. '61 ford falcon coupe. I just wanted one car but I kind of have an addiction to cars :( . So he made me a combo deal :)
Because of this purchase my wife almost killed me. Now I have to sell my original daily driver( 04 bmw 5series) , the '61 falcon, and. 22ft boat just to cover my ass from divorce lol.

Now if anyone can help me navigate through here or set me up with some links. My plans for the '54 customline are :
    12 v conv.
    A/c system.
    Power steering

    What I've done so far.
Removed the hub caps and painted the wheels black. LoL

Tomorrow we finish the Easywood plastiWrap paint job which is temporary till I get some funds from the other cars being sold.

Below are some pics of my little car problem. :)

There probably hinting at the fact that rat rod is a curse here. When you say rat rod thing crap rod, clown rod, hill billy horse shit.

We cater to the traditional hotrod, which is something different but still gets called ratty because of miss use of "car labels" being that deep into a supra I'm sure you can thing of comparisons.

    Anyhow into your 54.

Vintage air will be your go to place for a/c. Others do it cheaper non do it better.

Power steering. Totally not needed. Get the tire air pressure and your aligned dialed in and you won't think about it again. I loved my 53.

    12 volt.

I can't recall the year ford went to 12 volt, maybe 56?

Grab a 12 volt generator from one and stick it on your car with a same year voltage regulator. Change all your bulbs to there 12 volt counter part and put a voltage reducer to your gauge cluster in the dash and your rockin!

Your horn will be loud and your car will start fast. Oh, and a 12 volt battery obviously.

Your existing 6 volt wiring will line right up and is waaaay beefy enough for 12 volts givin that it's in good condition.

You've got a great one there! Let me know if you have anymore questions and stop using the rat word if you want to keep hanging around here hassle free ;)

~you also have the option of keeping your 6 volt generator and having it rebuilt for 12 volts by a shop. It's generally a shop that rebuilds starters as well if your trying to find a shop.

Also look up how to polarize your generator when you re instal it. The rebuild shop should be able to fill you in on that as well if you go that route. You basically arc a wire and it makes it spin in the correct direction

    Wcome from Texas!

It looks like you already got some great advice. Definitely go with Vintage Air for AC.

And don't take this wrong, but here's a little friendly advice.: You seem eager to learn and have the right attitude. Spend some time reading the HAMB and figure out the do's and don'ts.

Don't post pictures of off topic cars. If you feel that you absolutely have to talk about them, just refer to the as OT (off topic) and keep it as short as possible in order to achieve your message. Guys around here only care about traditional rods and customs. Sure, we all have other interests too, but those are for other forums.

And for your own skin, let your above post be the very last time you use the term rat rod on here. I hope you know the difference between a rat rod and a hot rod. If not, again I urge you to spend some time just browsing. Rat rods are a no go around here. Again, there's other forums for that.

With that in mind, I think you'll find the knowledge on the HAMB second to none and if you are respectful and understand how the place works, you will get a lot out of it. Just some friendly advice.

And good luck on the new business.

    I like that '54 a lot, btw.

Really like the '54. Should make a great ride. I would sell the Falcon if I could only keep one. Welcome. as has been stated, this is a pretty focused board, so don't wander too far off topic. There are other places for other stuff.

Hotroddon I think in the 50's they just called organic food "food"

Back when there wasn't so much bullshit that real actual food had to be labeled on the shelf.

....and yeah, I'm assuming he ment it's an old dinner and now he's re opening it as an organic spot. Cut em some slack ;)

People bitch about no new blood or young guys in the scene and then fuckin rape guys for using the wrong verbage on their first post lol.

    Hope he's got thick skin

  12. Tim,don't you remember just how rough the hamb was when you joined?

A guy was virtually beaten to a pulp just to see how thick his skin was,I remember vividly have my arse handed to me,had it not been for Denise (Hotrodladycruzer),Randy Nash(Deuce Roadster) and Ken Hart (Boones) urging me to hang in there I would have been going in a heartbeat.

Some here probably wish I had!;)

I believe the post here are just good humored ribbing of the new guy,at least that's the way I see them. HRP

http://www.y-blocksforever.com/ is a good site for all things for you 54. Lots of helpful people with a wealth of knowlege. One thing about the generator conversion, might not keep up if you ad air, sounds and other comforts. Vintage air is one of the few that has a a/c-alternator bracket for the y-block.
    good luck

Leave it to us, the Miami crowd to use plastidip, used to plastic wrap tool handles to wrap cars.

    Where is your restaurant?
