OK I really hate to ask, but the time has come to replace the 4 speed in my well worn 59 el Camino. I'm going to try to step up to a 5 speed. at one time there was a thread about all you wanted to know about 5 speeds. What years, what to do, what adapters, how to do it. I HAVE LOOKED, SEARCHED, CUSSED AND WHAT-EVER! I can't find it. I'll admit the new HAMB is kicking my ****, but I can't find the thread. Was it deleted? I need help here guys.Please. thanks in advance. And when I do find it how do I save it so I can go back to it?
What engine? T-5's routinely blew up behind 305's with " "spirited" driving if the car hooked up. A stock 283 with no traction and you'll be ok.
Those 305s must be putting out a lot more HP than the 5.0s! We run T5s behind several healthy 5.0s and 351s with no issues. Need to be sure what your running, WC vs Non-WC, Cobra vs stock mustang, close ratio vs wide ratio gears, etc. We use the Motorsport T5-Zs and haven't broken one yet (and that's with hard driving and healthy engines). I'm sure you can brake them if you work at it though.
Yep, had plenty of 5.0's myself. The GM units are not the same, I'm guessing a camaro or s10 unit going behind a sbc in an elcamino. Trying to get more info from the OP on "the plan"
Its just a highway cruiser, Saginaw 4 speed going south in it,thought I might upgrade to a "late model 80s overdrive" I've got prolly 300,000 miles on the car.prolly 200,000 on motor. got a very mild 305. just a highway star. 3.08 rear. no banging the gears or nothing. just drive the highway. figure I can put the OD in for about the same as a saginaw
