I am very seldom left speechless but my buddy Paul came damned close today. I'll make the story short as possible. I have known Paul since he was in high school, we met through the VW scene, I watched him grow into fine young man, get married, start a family and turn into an amazing graphic artist. Paul's dad p***ed away much too early and Paul took care of his mom. A good kid! As you may have guessed I am quite a bit older than Paul. He has been a good friend but today topped it off. Back several years ago while cleaning up the old homestead for a sale after my mother died, I ran across my first bicycle. On old 24" HUFFY that dad bought me for Christmas when I was six. I could barely reach the pedals but dad said I would grow into it. Like many a boy those wheels were my first taste of speed, freedom and adventure. I couldn't throw it in the dumpster so it came home with me. basically a frame, rear wheel and broken fork. Paul in the meantime had gotten into old bikes and had built a few really cool artsy two wheelers. I called Paul and told him I had a present for him and gave him my old bike with the only stipulation that he do something cool with it. Today, Fathers day Paul and this showed up at my door with a note "Happy Fathers Day, Though you're not my father, I look to you as a very cool friend" I rode this down the street for the first time in over 50 years today. Thanks Paul, Very cool indeed!
Sometimes its the little things that mean the most. Thank you for sharing. Streetrods are driven by Chevy, Hotrods are powered by FORD!
********************************************************************* (momentary thread ****** So, what does one call an automobile powered by a Mopar engine? (besides junk) Roger
That is so totally cool George! I can appreciate your excitement to get to ride it again. Not long after I finished the office, my cousin emailed me and said he saw pictures of it online. He said what it really needed was my old bike. When I grew out of my 1959 Schwinn, it got p***ed to him. He told me it was still in his parents' ba*****t and I was welcome to it. Isn't fun to get a piece of your past back unexpectedly. I'm proud for you!
good kid there and you might know but you helped him in some way(s)....glad to see your still pedalin'
