I'm in the process of rewiring my 56 Sunliner with a rebel kit. I'm looking for a convenient place to mount the new fuse block. Looks like to the right of the steering column is the best place. I was just wondering where folks were putting them? I've read a bunch of rewire tips but haven't seen anyone post a picture or talk about it. Also, Has anyone else with a convertible used these kits? I'm trying to figure out which leads I should use for the top switch? I have the 16 circuit kit. I'll call rebel when I get to that point, just thinking ahead. Thanks for any help, Rich
Mine is mounted up high but to the left of the steering column because that is where the majority of the wires came through the firewall. I have a sedan so I'm no help on which lead to use for the top switch.
Thanks for the reply. Do you have what I think is the window washer pump handle on the left side also?
I have mounted my fuse/relay block high up on the left kick panel. I have the washer pump fitted on the floor. I am running cl***ic auto air so the firewall is pretty busy with foot heating ducts etc.. I have used a kwikwire kit as I liked the built in immobiliser mounted on the fuse block.
High on the left seems to be pretty standard location for a full size car. I don't want to hijack this thread, but if anyone out there is considering an off-topic build, particularly with a late oem Ford steering column and new school engine, I can post a new thread with info. Pic of my '57 fuse panel in the works. plastic clips are temporary until all the wires are in. My panel is mounted on a 1/4" aluminum plate that drops down for easy access should the need arise. That's the reason for the loop in the wires above the panel
I am looking into rewiring my car. It seems the the Rebel kit is the way to go. Let us know of your progress. I want to learn as much as possible before I open this can of worms.
It looks complicated but if you take your time and separate the wires according to p***enger compartment, engine bay, front lights, rear lights, etc it will be a slice of pie. Just work in one area at a time, don't rush, and use plenty of ground wires and cables.
I decided to go with electric wipers and removed the washer pump off the firewall. Now I have the fuse block located there. I'm doing it as Flyboy stated, one area at a time. I started under the hood because I was waiting for new wiper motor and defroster ducts to come in. ( the ducts fell apart when they were touched) The hardest part so far is finding and knowing what connectors to use ahead of time. They don't seem readily available. I know it's a sore subject reading posts about solder and crimping so, I won't go there. The kit is great and the people at Rebel are more than helpful. They've already helped me a couple of times.
I am using a Kwik wire kit. Seems to be easy to install. Fuse block is just to the left of column and so the clutch pedal misses it. It comes divided up into areas already and each wire is labeled every foot really hard to mess this up.
