JUST ADDED PICTURES!!! Just bought a old 1955 chevy 2 door post drag car. "the hooker" i will post pictures tomorrow. Does anybody have any info or pictures on this car? I was told when i bought it that it used to be the california highway patrol race car and then later was the new mexico highway patrol race car. I was also told it raced at carlsbad. There is a nhra sticker on each vent window that says high & mighty, any idea what this means. There is also a sticker on the drivers side back plexi-glass window that reads paticipant, parts place inc., western bracket finals, ???renwell raceway 1988. Any info would be great? Thanks in advance for your help rob
High and Mighty was the first ramchargers car, a late 40s plymouth. It was the car that started the gas wars. Post some pictures!
Looks like it still is. http://www.nhradiv5.com/tracks.html And, it's just an opinion, but I don't see what the Ramchargers High and Mighty had to do with Gassers, since it was an Altered. Larry T
CA and NM are not in Div 5 so who knows, '55 Chevies were all over the place, sad to say, not all old race cars are "famous."
Yeah, but it was a design that grew largest in Gas class, IE, they all copied it. Hell the Wright Brothers are credited with being the direct inspiration for putting a man on the moon, that WORLDS apart, not just class!
If the car raced out at Carlsbad, NM the bracket finals sticker is probably Penwell Raceway. Odessa, Texas I believe. Larry T
kinda looks like the left framerail to me... of course, my 56 pontiac had about as many holes to accommodate the demonically designed clutch mechanism
I guess that the holes are drilled and cut to lighten the car. Here are two more pictures. Thanks for the input!
That's what i thought. Holy lightining holes. I guess that's what they did back then. I'll keep looking to see if i can find some old pictures somewhere. Thanks for all your guys help. It's just so cool to have a old 55 chevy race car. Rob
I vaguely remember that car back in the day when it was bonneville raceway in salt lake city. It used to be a division 5 track as well. Now its rocky mountain raceway and not even an NHRA track. I seem to remember that car and the jokes us high schoolers made about the name. All in all a bad ass "HOLY" terror. (couldn't resist!) Cool find!! You may want to look in the direction of old Salt Lake City racers as well. Scot
