Hopefully you own a chrome shop, then you can use it as an advertizing write-off.

Take a moment and try and visualize the size of the chemical tanks needed to pull off something like this. Oh, by the way the Orange Crate has a chrome frame. It's been done.

My recollection is the The Emperor had a fully chromed Model A frame. It is a Barris kustom 1929 Ford roadster, now owned by Blackie Gegian, it was AMBR around 1959 or 1960 after the Ala Kart had won the previous two years.

I've seen a few, mostly on show cars. Pat Ganahl's new book, "Hot Rod Gallery", shows a chromed 32 frame under a 29 highboy on page 67.

Thanks for the examples ... guys, I think for a car show would be good, not for a day car ...

I remember when we lived in Minnesota in the 70s, I went to a car show and there was a root beer '57 Chevy, tilt nose with a completely chromed frame. Some one told me that the owner had an "in" at 3M in the twin cities and the frame was done in their industrial chrome facility. Maybe some of the MSRA guys will comment after they recover from the 'back to the 50s" this weekend.

There was a t bucket in a hot rod magazine from about 1959 that had almost every part, including the frame, chromed. The guy owned a chrome plating shop. I have that magazine somewhere in my collection.

There were a few Hot Rods with chromed frames that made car magazine covers in the 1960's. A chromed frame was a common thing on top end Sprint cars as well as INDY cars in the late 1920's and 1930's. Bob

  16. About 30 years ago I saw a working logging truck up in Idaho, that was either chromed or polished aluminum, pretty strange.

I chromed a rigid 1950 Panhead frame (think Captain America) although the tank and fenders were black..looked pretty good back in the late 60's. HRP

used to have a neighbor with a '64 Impala, that had the frame chromed in Mexico (this was only like 15 years ago)... damn near everything on that car was chromed. there were more than a couple lowriders with all chrome frames...

as far as hot rods, other than the ones mentioned above, i can't say i can think of any others. just lowriders.

Wow, very good examples ... now that's style .... they wanted to go faster but also cared about the aesthetics of their cars....

  27. A 40 ford from the Bay Area had a chrome frame. The car is still in the Bay Area. I saw the black Roadster at the hotrod display at the Oakland museum, what was that 20 years ago?

  28. There was a Model A Roadster from here in Manitoba that Al Bodnarchuk owned in the late fifties through the later sixties and it had a completely chrome frame that got changed during its "rebuild" in the 90's. Candy red with magnesium 5 spoke wheels. Full fendered car.
