I've been scouring the net for pics of a 55-56 victoria with 58-60 t-bird frt bumper. I know it's been done but can't find any examples. I may go this route maybe not.. I ve already pick up a nice straight frt bumper if i go custom with cruiser skirts but thinking about a stock frt with a slight rake hot rod style, no skirts. I'm on the fence. Anyway i found only one pic of a high end 55.Which i really like. Anyone ever come across some examples?
Tedley, do you have some cruiser skirts for your car? I recently picked up a 56 Meteor Niagara 2-door hardtop that has been sitting inside since 1968. The guy's Dad bought it in 1958. It came with a pair as he customized? the car with them wayback when. I personally wouldn't use cruiser skirts on anything, so they are for sale. Look to be Merc.
Check my album for pics of my old 54. The pic you have is the right way to do it.....but you need that top trim piece. There is an article in Custom Rodder from 1960 that shows that swap.
Fordnutz, thanks but i'll be making my own skirts if i decide i'm going that route. But if you could post a pic i'd certainly think about it since your not that far from me. Meteor is a rare find by the way as you probably know.
That bumper really looks good on that 55 Ford. I thought it would look too massive and "heavy", but am pleasantly surprised.
Yes i agree. Real custom look. Actually looks a little Merc like. I don't think it would cut it if i go with a hot rod look and jacked slightly in the rear thou. Might look to heavy. As a custom it really blends in sled like. I didn't get front end parts with the car like a bumper grille signal lights or interior etc and the cost is a factor as i'm a budget builder. I've also scored a 64 xl interior seats which would suit the custom theme but not so much the hot rod theme.I don't think.
I can tell you from experience it doesn't look front end heavy...if anything it's light in the front end. There is a 55 lincoln from Indiana that's got a t bird bumper grill on it in a Kustoms illustrated.
I guess i should be posting this stuff in my build thread but thought i could stir up more examples in a general thread like this one. loveoftiki... do you have a pic per chance of that Lincoln?
