Well, it's home and a weekend has been spent cleanin' it up to discover what's under all the goo... Fixed 80% of the leaks and took care of some of the other minor issues. It runs out nice! Now I gotta figure out the color scheme (something that goes with the greenie interior) Can ya help?
Are you still gonna do the '55 Desoto side trim on it? Because I think that would look nice. Some people like 50's cars with all their trim shaved, and one solid color, but I personally like lots of flash and funky two tone paintjobs. My '55 Dodge is getting '56 Royal Lancer side trim and two-tone yellow and black paint.
Yup. Somebody put a truck dualie on it with megaphones; looks stupid and sounds stupit. I'm gonna add a set of turbo muffs to cut the noise but keep some rumble and tuck the exh under the bumper where it belongs. I've bought a 4bbl intake and am sending the jing out today for a Carter WCFB to hang topside; by the time this engine is setup right she oughta turn 220-230 HP. Not a screamer, but enough to keep up with modern traffic. You're in Michigan somewheres?
I found DS trim out in Reno, but the guy hasn't called back. I will tutone it in any case and will follow (roughly) the DS paint scheme. Currently thinkin' light green for the main body, teal for the accent and roof.
Yeah, I'm up in Bay City. I love those 50s Chrysler, but I've got a full garage and a light bank. That'll keep up with traffic fine! It'll probably get decent mileage too!
If you're looking for any '55-56 DeSoto trim, there is a guy in San Antonio TX that has all that you're looking for in perfect condition. He has about a dozen of them, all four-doors. This is the only one I have a picture of. Unfortunately, you have to pull it yourself (or get someone here to). The place is called Spencer's...
Color combo...I also like 2 tones on most 50's cars.....VERY light mint green pearl (maybe with some green, or gold, flip-flop pearl over it), with a pretty dark green Candy (HOK organic green, over galaxy gray base, add a bit of gold mini flake to the Candy) roof, and inserts in trim.
I would, man. But SA is 6hrs from here. If I make another trip, I'll let you know. You may want to get in touch with some Austin / SA HAMBers if you want it anytime soon though.
Chrysler offered tri-tone paint in the mid-fifties. I've got some pictures of a super-nice 55-56 DeSoto with tri-tone green/white/black around here somewhere. I'll see if I can find pics, or a link. It makes for a really pretty car.
Now THAT's a car! I've seen pink/white/black, but never aqua/white/black. I'll have to ponder it - sure looks great!
