Event Coverage For those who put car show advertisements in peoples cars

  1. This has long been a gripe I have at shows. Yesterday, at the 40 Ford day show, I had 15 flyers thrown in my car. I didn't spend the money for a nice upholstery job to have it look like a trash can at a show. Out of respect for the entrants that support their shows, the promoters should have a table where flyers can be placed. The entrants could check them out, and pick up the ones they are interested in.

We do a small hot rod show at our local dragstrip and always make sure and give the flyer to the MC and let him announce it. That saves me the hassle of having to walk to every car and put one in the window. When i do stick them in the cars i always put them on the PASSENGER side floor board. I dont go to local "fundraiser" type shows. Too many idiots not enough car guys. I stick to bigger shows and cruise ins....... I have never had a issue with people putting flyers in my car but i know some people do.

  3. I take a lot of photos of cars at all the shows I go to and flyers under wipers really spoil the shot. JW

I really hate when they put flyers under your wipers. At Viva a few months back, I walked around for a bit and came back to a pile of flyers and advertisements on my seat

My '61 is FAR from show-quality, but as was mentioned, it's about respect for someone's pride and joy. I always appreciate it when they actually hand it to me instead of tossing it in my truck.

If you don't think this is serious just think of all the paper cuts endured cleaning out this blight.

I posted the following sign in my windshield
"Do not put any fliers in my car!!
    I will be back shortly.
If you feel it is important for me to be at your show
Wait for me to return and we can talk about it,
If you do not feel it is worth while waiting,
I don't feel it is worth while coming to your show"

Reading this thread, one would think most of these cars belong at Pebble Beach, not the local car shows.

That's a lot of shit tossed in your car. I was also speaking for MY experience at shows. From now on, I'll insert a disclaimer, when I post. "Your experience may differ."

    I don't mind the fliers.
If I'm at one show, (not lately,) I might want to go to another that I don't know about, so the flier is cool ad, but please toss them on the floor, not on the seat, and if you put them under my wiper and spoiled someone's photo op I'm really pissed and won't attend no matter what! And don't bother giving me fliers for your high school badminton team fund raiser car show, at the high school in Bumfuck, CA, you might as well just try to sell me a donut instead, I might by one if your a cute girl with a sincere smile.

Curious: If you don't allow flyers, how will you find out about the NEXT show?

    Internet.

  18. I've been to several shows where - at registration the powers in charge advise NO FLYERS to be put in or on vehicles, but instead will make a table or bench available to put stacks of them out for whoever wants one. Saves the flier-folks from running around, wasted/trashed flyers, and confrontations from pissed off old farts who don't like having the papers tossed in their rides & leaving skid marks on the seats.

25 years ago I went to a show 100 miles away in a small mountain town, and thought I had removed all the flyers before leaving. Little did I know, one had slipped beneath the seat, and a cross wind pulled it right out of my ragtop. There happened to be a CHP officer a ways behind me, and he pulled me over for littering. After getting lectured for a half hour, he decided to let me off with a warning. Now I double check for loose flyers before leaving any show.

  20. As a kid in the late 70's my dad and I went to all the indoor car shows in Kansas City, still some of the best Friday nights of my life. He taught me to never touch a car without talking to the owner and to keep my hands in my back pockets when looking at a car. It's weird but I still find myself with my hands in my back pockets at shows. I always roll up the windows of my 57 chevy at shows.

I don't see the big deal. But, I have only black upholstery. However, I always look at the seat before I sit down.

Why would you drive your car on a beach full of pebbles? That sounds dumb-I don't even like to drive on dirt roads, those Indian blankets are a pain to wash.If someone messes with my car at a show, I throw my California Car Cover over them and hit them with my feather duster. Some people! Not the point at all. It doesn't matter if you have the biggest POS at a show, it isn't right for someone to just walk up and put something in it without your permission.

No different from the idiots who put advertising under your wiper at a parking lot. One time I called a company that had their name on the flyer I found on my car and asked for the owner. I told him "One of your people put an ad under my wiper and they bent the wiper arm and scratched my paint. Who is your insurance company ?" He was making excuses about hiring kids to do it and they shouldn't be doing that, and then I let him off the hook by telling him "My car wasn't damaged, but if I wanted to be a jerk I could claim it was and go after you for damages. Think about that the next time you want cheap advertising !

    Don"

I just lifted the front of mine 8 inches, and now they can't reach the wipers. Works great!

I normally sit next to my car at some shows and greet the flyer hander outer as they arrive at my car. I stick out my hand and say thank you so they don't have to put them in the car. This usually works.......................

And so are the people who defend them. :p I also don't expect to find garbage stuck under my windshield wiper.
Respect also involves respecting another persons property.
Placing fliers (unwanted garbage solicitation) on someone else's property is a sure sign of a lack of respect. The idiot label is appropriate.
