Hot Rods 32 Tudor, what's a fair offer?

I got a chance to look at a nice deuce tudor today that's been off the road since 1964. Former hot rod, still has the running boards and fenders with nice lacquer paint. Looks like they took the body off at some point and primered it. One door needs a patch along the bottom but that's it. No motor but it has a transmission and complete stock ch***is. No rust on that either, just greasy. There's two extra gas tanks, a 32 wishbone, and a 32 axle sitting inside with a damn near perfect grille/insert, V8 headlight bar, all the garnish mouldings, and boxes of other parts. I guess the guy bought it as a hot rod with the intent of returning it back to stock. I've got so many projects and no room as it is, so I don't need this, but if I can get it at a decent price I can't p*** it up. The owner is up there pretty good in years, and the guy trying to sell it for him doesn't know anything about cars nor does he understand why anyone messes with old cars? What's a fair offer? I really don't follow the prices tudors are bringing these days.

    How about some photo's?

Hard to take a stab at something unseen but a far guess for both party's would be between 12 on 15 grand. HRP

I know, just don't want to post any photos until it's in my driveway if I decide to pull the trigger. I was thinking 10K-12K but 12K-15K is probably a lot more realistic.

Anything under $15K would be a good deal if it is as described.

I bought mine as a bone stock 4 cylinder car. Totally complete but not running and had a good clear ***le and I paid more then that. I've seen some decent original cars with patina, not perfect, and there asking $30k. Now asking and getting are two different things. I saw the one Flat Foot was talking about at the LARS and I am surprised it didn't sell. Its only worth what somebody's willing to pay for it and there's an *** for every seat! Ford isn't making anymore of them tho!

As with everything the seller would like to get as much as possible and the buyer wants to pay as little as possible..

I honestly believe the OP want's to be fair and I was quoting what I thought was fair.

I think that if the same Deuce was in California and in Michigan there would be a difference in the price,JMHO. HRP

The fenders and running boards are still sporting their lacquer paint from the 50s or 60s and they're in great shape. The body is rust free and in primer. One door is bad but not unusable. There's a small dent in the character line and the bottom will need a patch panel. There's a complete hood and a spare hood side too. The ch***is looks great, like they drove it into the garage in 1964, pulled the motor and there it's sat. I don't know about the ***le yet? I don't want to take the guy to the cleaners but I don't want to overpay for a car I don't need and have no place to store. But if it's a good deal I'm going to jump on it.

  13. I'd say, based on level of completeness and condition described, that's a $25,000 car.

You have to start somewhere, sounds like a good start to me and you'll soon find out if they have done any homework. I say it's their responsibility to research it and see what it's value is if it means anything to them. If they don't it's not that important to them. When I'm digging through my junk and find something and decide to sell it, I go to the WWW and see what its worth and throw it out there and then take the best I can get.

As is often the case the more the owner/seller thinks about it the more likley they may turn to the internet for information...too low a offer and you might just offend them on the other hand they may take a low offer.'

It's a two edged sword but you need to talk to the owner/seller soon. HRP

It's a weird deal. The owner is about eighty years old and has owned street rods in the past. I think he probably knows what it's worth. But I don't think he drives anymore and definitely isn't building anything new and this deuce is in the way.

The guy I'm dealing with is his buddy whose in his 40s and knows nothing about old cars plus he's baffled as to why anyone would mess with them? And he has basically been charged with getting rid of this thing for the older gentleman. So there's potential for me to make a hell of a score. I just don't want to overpay for a car I'm not sure I want. Plus I'd have to get rid of one or two of my Model As. But if I can get a $20K 32 for $10K that's a no brainer.

Gotta play this one a little tricky.... Two sided coin here. A big wad of Ben Franklins is enticing to some.... Shoot for the middle ground and feel comfortable at your MOST cash outlay. Start a lil lower, but not to what you feel is insulting, and work with the gent if you really want it.
If you want it bad, you'll go........ Good luck.

I talked to him on the phone and asked if he had a price range he was shooting for? He said "Come check it out then make me an offer." Now that I've seen it, I know it's pretty nice.

I told my buddy fab32 about it. He has a deuce Tudor and follows all things related to '32s. I think he's going to go check it out with me. I'm a Model A guy and I don't know all the subtleties when it comes to deuces and if it's missing any expensive pieces. Now I just have to make sure he doesn't try to buy it out from under me ;-)

Get a good look on the back side of all the sheet metal where you can. Body filler and primer go a long way in making a rough body look better than it really is. Just because it has been in storage forever does not mean it was nice when it was put up.

If it is complete and it has nice sheet metal and and you get a deuce ***le anything under $20K is a deal.

Well, I'm only 37 so I hope it's more than a few years. And that's why I asked what a fair price was? Seems like anything under $20K is a good deal. If it ends up being that much I'll probably p***. There's four Model As and a 50 F1 to keep me busy in my garage.

Well Scott, you had to know I would get wind of this one sooner or later. My building contractor called and talked to Sharon about going with him to check it out tomorrow. He's got an 8 sec. drag car and thinks a hot rod would be a cool addition to his toy box. She told him I don't have anything on my plate for tomorrow so as it stands he'll be here to pick me up sometime in the morning. Might have some information for you by lunch time tomorrow.
Just found out your working tomorrow so no lunch for you.
How much is it worth to steer him away from this cherry Deuce that probably can be bought for chump change? A new AK47 would seal the deal but seeing that your tab is nearly down to zero a small concealable 9mm would be sufficient.
