Well, almost. So, I am at this garage sale and always ask the question at the end do you have any motorcycles old cars mini bikes or go karts? The lady says "I don't but my brother does and he's right out there", so I hunt the guy down and ask him what he's got. He says "an old Ford" and I'm thinking ok, '61 galaxy here we go. We get in the golf cart go down to the shed and there it is, a 37 Ford coupe! long story short we can't make a deal on the coupe (yet), but on the way back, I look across the fence at an adjoining ranch and there is a pontoon made out of whoa whoa are those belly tanks? I almost fell off the cart! So I start banging on doors when we leave and run this down... Two tanks made into a gag........ drum roll...... catamaran of sorts. It took 3 weeks to finally pry them out of the guys hands. The nomenclature tag says they are for F4U Corsair 150 gallons, 11 feet long, 24 inches wide, and all aluminum, damn I love garage sales! OH MY GOD!!! i have been looking for a belly tanker forever. you are very lucky! color me insanely jealous!
You ain't foolin' nobody into thinking you've already built it. There ain't even any nuts holdin' the wheels on! (There is one sitting on the concrete behind the tank, though.)
Maybe if I sell 'em! To know me is to know what "a snail's pace" really means! Boy, I got busted out on that one quick! Thanks, HRP!
Excellent find - a guy I know was visiting another guys place a few years ago and off in the brush was a belly tank that someone had put a lawn mower engine to drive around in. well, he took it home and with a "few" upgrades runs a V8-60 at Bonneville. attached pics do not show it all together but, give you the idea on what you can do too.
Catamarans have already been to Bonneville. This tank is for sale. PM here for details, Ø31" 14' long
I heard that, my tanks are only 24"........ that 7" would make a big diff! With any luck, I will be posting some more pics of it from my garage soon!
Those are not the "ideal" tanks to build from, what you really want is 14'+ and 30"+ width. You'll have trouble just trying to fit a Model A engine and trans in there.
Great score, Harold Johansen ran a joined pair back in the day at Bonneville, or was it his father Howard.
