    VIVA ATLANTA HAS BEEN CANCELED.

This looks like a good subs***ute:

HEAVY REBEL WEEKENDER. There are several threads on the HAMB about this show.

Are the cars parking inside or outside? Never been there so don't know what the venue is like.

The cars park in the streets which are closed off for the show. Two negatives to this show, rat rod heavy and usually HOT AS BALLS! Don't get me wrong, we have had a lot of fun there in the past and there are some great cars that show up.

Dog Patch was asking about Viva Atlanta that was just canceled on Monday.

Flat Foot is talking about Heavy Rebel Weekender in Winston-Salem.

It was lining up to be a big event. They had Henry Rollins signed on, Bo Huff, and 20+ Rockabilly groups.

Henry Rollins dropped out early. One or two of the bands started dropping the last week.

My guess is the promoter did not have the cash to reserve the venue.

There was also talk of Viva Las Vegas had an issue using the use of the Viva name. I think that's just rumor.

About 8 of the bands still put on a group show on July 4th at the B3 Bar in Austell. They had a parking lot full of Hot Rods and Customs (a few muscle cars snuck in). I hear they had a great time.

I think it was a mistake doing it the same time as Heavy Rebel Weekender. I almost switched and went to Winston-Salem for that. Every hotel at their venue had rooms available just a few days prior to the event. That made me think it wasn't big enough for a 1000 mile round trip.

That is a hard weekend as a whole. Not all but many have to juggle family and events being the 4th. It would still be cool to try something. July is brutal weather wise. I would push for an April or early May event. Good luck in the future.

10 years ago you couldn't get a room at the downtown hotels for heavy rebel past about april. last few years i reduced myself to only driving over for the car show or like this year not going at all.

Good point. I encourage anyone involved in organizing this event to please consider this suggestion. Early fall is the beginning of football season and there is still a chance of a hurricane.

I like that thinking -- if I can get a room, don't go. If it's all booked up and I can't get a room, Go!

i really can't see not knowing how big heavy rebel is if you are into hot rod culture and the whole rockabilly thing and in the southeast/midatlantic. that show has drawn people from as far as canada and the westcoast and lots of southeasterners from florida, georgia, alabama, mississippi, etc for over a dozen years.

now with that said the suggestion of early may i think is a mistake again as Steel in Motion is early/mid may and is a aggressively growing show you don't want to compete with and it's only a coupla hours or so from atl and i can te you there were a good chunk of folks from the atl area there this year for sure.

if i was gonna do something similar i would do early april or late sept/early oct. i would probably avoid doing it the same weekend as charlotte autofair or goodguys charlotte. having it run the same weekend as the atlanta swapmeet wouldn't be a bad idea as then you've got dual draw to the area.

oh and get a better variety of bands. not everybody is into the rockabilly thing. early heavy rebel had alot more country and western and other types stuff to.

oh and i was a little suprised to hear Bo Huff was supposed to be there. isn't he having a pretty tuff battle wit cancer right now?

see i forgot about cruizin the coast as it's a bit out of range for me. doing something same time up here in nc i don't think would be as much in conflict with cruizin the coast as it would in atl so yeah your deff probably right. i do know a few guys from this area that make it down for that show occasionally.

i think a winter indoor show would be worth looking at. theres a few up this way but none are great and it's usually hit or miss. theres a winter indoor in greensboro that is a hot rod show that combines with a vw show(which is ok with me since i play with both) but the also combined in a Scion show at one point(they may have dropped that part as i don't think th hot rod or vw people were happy with that add on). from memory i think it has also came a pretty big snow at least a couple of the years lately and kept attendance low.
