I just agreed to purchase a 1948, "which way is it going" Studebaker. My first sight of a Starlight Coupe was at the Overton Park Zoo, where it was accompanying The Around 50 the States demonstrating the stability of the new Stude on 3 wheels vice four. I was mesmerized by the 4 back windows. I was allowed to ride in the back for a short way and I was sold on having one when I grew up. Well I am still trying to grow up, but I will soon have a Starlight.

Congrats. We love the Studebaker's too. I would love to get a Hawk for my wife.

Good for you! Any plans to customize it, or are you just going to enjoy it as-is?

Nice, I'd love to upgrade from my '52 sedan to a starlight, but the wife likes those extra doors. Damn practicality...

These things make great cars, stock, mild custom, or all out. Good luck with yours...

Slick looking car there. I'd probably keep changes to a minimum and drive it and grin. I keep eyeballing the shell of a Starlight coupe that I drive past a few times a week in the back lot of a local shop and thinking it would make a good basis for a Hamb Friendly g***er.

looks like a clean car. I have a '48 starlight as well and you really can't beat that wrap around rear gl***… no blind spots when driving. they make pretty slick taildragger/kustoms as well .. which is the direction i am going with mine.

My first car was a 49 Champ 2dr. I took all kinds of flack about that car in 1960 because they sure weren't a kids car then. But it was a free car from a grandfather to a 16 yr old kid. It was funny about 40 years later I ran into the guy who'd har***ed me the most, back in 60 he had a very clean mild custom 53 Ford cpe. He was admiring my 41 and introduced himself, when I asked him if he remembered all the grief he'd given me back then he shut up and walked away. Sometimes it takes years to get a comeback. LOL
I think of that car every time I'm out on a portion of Rt 66 as my grandfather traveled that road many times in the Stude going to Ca. from Mi.
