-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Cathy and I have loved racing (watching and doing) for most of my life. Never have had the oppurtunity to compete although it has been a long time dream. My dad, Roger Blood, used to race a '33 Ford C/Altered across the country and even competed in the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona,California before totalling the vehicle at the US 30 Dragway in York, Pennsylvania. Would love any stories or general info that anyone might have about him and his race history as he doesn't talk too much about it. i still think he mourns the loss of his beloved "Virginian". My mom has shared her memories with me and vividly recalls the horrific accident that almost made her a widow, but that's really all I have to go on. Thanks.

Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from the Shenandaoh Valley. I wish I could help you with info about your father's race car but I am not familiar with it.
Thanks for the reply, sidevalve8ba. My dad actually lives in Linden, VA near Front Royal up there in your neck of the woods. Small world! I do have a picture from about 1961 that I found on this message board that was submitted by Oldracer, but that's all I've been able to turn up so far.
My Uncle was big in racing in Trenton NJ raceway. Big Bob O'Rourke...unfortunately he passed away but I understand your desire to want to learn more about it...You may get more visibility on the main discussion board vice the introduction section.
You might post any photos you do find on the HAMB. Sometimes a photo can jog someone's memory. Speaking of Front Royal, my son coaches football at one of the local high schools.
Welcome. I remember a picture in a magazine back in the day of your Father's car, the Blood and Cavil '34 Coupe if my memory serves me good. You should try to attend the York US 30 Reunion/ Musclecar Madness event July 13, 2013 @ York Expo Ctr. York, Pa. I'm sure some of the old timers there will remember your Dad. Do a search for their website. It will give you the particulars and which drag legends from the 60's will be in attendance. Good luck.....................Don.
Feb. 1963 Hot Rod 2-page coverage of the Blood-Cavil Special dubbed the "Virginian". Tried to scan it and upload to the HAMB but failed. They were apparently associated with Ed's Speed Shop in Alexandria, Va. at the time......."during the'62 Winternationals , the Oriental Red bomb thrilled the huge crowds with spectacular push-bar dragging wheelstands."
I might suggest you start a thread0 on the main board as well asking for info, photos, etc. You never know what might turn up when a few thousand more people see the thread. A lot of guys don't get over to the Intro pages very much.
Another welcome from the Shenandoah Valley, i think i know your dad. The name is very familiar but i can't place 'where from'. Anyway, welcome to the Hamb.
Welcome from Maine. A good friend of ours Pork Zartman use to race there alot with the Filthy Forty. It was his home track.
Welcome Cathy from Rhinebeck NY. I know what it's like trying to track down cars from the past. Post what you have and let HAMB do what it does best. Again Welcome Pat
I worked with Roger and Charlie both back in the late '70's and 80's. With Charlie into the early '90's. While I am younger with both of them, I do know and did hang out with a lot of the guys they knew in the DC area. Also another guy I used to work with, Bob Cookston, was pretty knowledgable with the early Camaros. I heard a lot from friends about an article written about Roger in Hot Rod magazine. It was in the early/mid '60's, and the article was titled "Out for Blood". Having never read the article I don't know much more than that. Back then I was really into hot cars and Roger was one of those guys who just knew everything about anything Chevrolet. He could sit down and talk for hours about conversations he had had with Duntov or Smokey Yunick. He never really spoke of the accident to me directly, although I was able to get the skinny from some of the guys he hung out woth. He could also just crack you up with some of the stories he told. I haven't seen him since probably 1999. Used to hunt on the mountain up the road from where he lives. I suppose I should go pay him a visit. Most of the guys I know he used to hang out with have passed. Can't stop the clock... Last I spoke with him, he was working on building up a ZL-1 Corvette. Kurt
